      Hi all,

Is anyone’s insomnia directly linked to work? Like a conditioned, Pavlov’s dogs kind of thing. I had an OK streak for the past 2 months during holidays, when work was minimal or I was on vacation (I am a teacher). I only had one really bad night, but other than that, sleep was all right. I would take a tiny dose of Valium and melatonin more as comfort than anything else, and would sleep 6-7 hours without interruption every day.

But, the very day that school started, my middle of the night awakenings returned. Every night, without fail, I am awake about 3-4 hours after falling asleep. Then, it’s a struggle to get back to sleep, using some things that I really shouldn’t.
There are nights when even those things don’t help.

Is this insomnia or some kind of underlying anxiety? I can understand that anxiety makes it hard to fall asleep, but I can’t understand how it can wake somebody up in the middle of the night when they’re sleeping peacefully.
My job is not that stressful this year, I don’t feel anxious…

Do you think there’s a possibility you put more pressure on yourself to sleep when you know you have work the next day? Perhaps you feel that if you don’t get a good night of sleep, the next day will be more difficult or you might make mistakes at work?

I don’t think these kinds of thoughts usually wake us up, but they sure can make it more difficult to fall back to sleep! I hope this gives you something that might be worth exploring!
