Just wondering if getting out of bed after not sleeping or 30 or so minutes would create more stress over whether or not I’m sleeping. I wonder if just focussing on accepting that I’m not sleeping and just relaxing anyway and not worrying about whether or not I’m sleeping is a more helpful approach? I haven’t tried stimulus control yet but I feel like it will be challenging to do on top of sleep restriction therapy.

If you have this concern, you can simply determine when to get out of bed by your level of arousal. So, if you are feeling calm and relaxed, you can allow yourself to stay in bed since conditions are right for sleep. If you are feeling wide awake, alert, anxious, frustrated, angry, etc — that can be your cue to get out of bed until you feel calm and relaxed again.

        I hope this helps!

Thanks Martin, that seems like the most sensible course of action. Cheers!
