      Hello everyone,

I’m here seeking any advice or recommendation. I’ve been dealing with insomnia for the past 6 months. I have used relaxation response and cognitive restructuring to calm my mind and it has been working for the most part. I’ve had some bad nights, which is expected, but sometimes I can’t tell how many hours I’ve slept. At times, I’m convinced that I didn’t get much sleep, but I woke up feeling ok. Should I be worried?

I also plan to go to Spain for vacation next week, and I’m kinda concerned about my sleep cycle. I have a 5:30 pm flight out of NY to Barcelona, which is an 8 hour flight. Should I sleep on the flight or should I wait till it’s nighttime to sleep in Spain?

      Thanks,

If you feel OK, you’re probably sleeping OK. Most people don’t really track how many hours of sleep they are getting from night to night!

Sleep is often disrupted when we cross timezones. What’s perhaps more important is the fact you are going to Barcelona — that experience will likely contribute far more to you living a rich and meaningful life than how you sleep on the plane or even how you sleep when in Spain!

I usually suggest just listening to your body during the plane ride. When you land, you might want to remain awake until the evening to help your body adjust to the time change a little quicker.

I hope there’s something useful here!
