      I have had trouble sleeping since 2013. I have experiences different traumas in my life causing nightmares and flash backs. I wake up in a sweat. I am also a night shift nurse. I work three 12 hour shifts a week. I switch back to a normal sleep schedule when I am off. I usually wake up 4 and 5 times a day/night. I have no idea when the last time I had uninterrupted sleep was. I was on trazodone but even that stopped being effective.

        Sorry to hear about your sleep difficulties. Shift work is very hard on the sleep system and sleep disruption associated with shift work and an irregular schedule is more of a circadian rhythm issue than exclusively an insomnia issue. With this in mind, I would encourage you to look for someone who specializes in circadian rhythm sleep disorders and has experience helping people who work shifts since this is an area of sleep that I do not have adequate expertise in.
