Things happen in life and I got sick with a sinus infection. I went to the doctor and she gave me an antibiotic and mucinex and I was up at 3am and could not go back to sleep.

I have been sleeping good for the most part, still wake up too early around 5 or 6 but I can handle that easier than 3am. I am trying to remember I will have bad nights as well as bad days so get over it and go on. The thing is I never can remember being up at night before I got insomnia 2 years ago. I always slept so good. Now it is like I am so sensitive and if I get upset or aggitated or do too much I will wake up in the middle of the night or cant go to sleep at all. It seems once you have had insomnia you are sensitive or at least I am. Maybe this will go away eventually I hope.

        Hi Sleep,
I am the same as you, had it about 3 yrs ago and it was tough, days without sleep but got it resolved, back in July I started wake up at 3am like you, toss and turning. It just took a night of not sleeping and back in that rabbit hole. I think you are right, so easy to fall back into it but for me, it’s not so easy to remember what got me out of it and that’s the not over thinking it and if sleep does not happen, not a big deal. Not sleeping a few days on end, is easier said than done.
I hope we both get some relief.

Thanks Robb, yes, you know how I feel. I have got back on track the last week thank goodness, but I am sure at times things happen and will upset me. I just have to remember everyone has bad times. Now if I could get my sleep schedule straightened out.

I am retired and would love to sleep late. I get up at 5am or 6am and would love for it to be 7am or 8am. I am trying to stay up a little later each night and see if that helps. I am seeing a small difference already. I sure am better than 2 years ago, Martin Reed is the only one who helped me.

            Hi Sleep,
I am reading back through the emails trying to figure out what I did the last time to get back on track, right now too much searching as to what is going on, so my mind gets very worked up, then trying to sleep and I can’t get my mind to stop working. It’s like I am tired and then I lay down and then I am wide awake, got a few nights of that and that got the ball rolling. Hope to get back on track soon but very happy for you.

Yes, I try to remember the successful nights. I remember pod cast #61 Bryan helped me with that. Insomnia is a miserable thing to deal with, it made me feel so awful as everyone knows!

I remember him saying that night sucked, next night be more likely to be a better one. No big deal, if it doesnt happen I will sleep again. Sleep will take a back seat to things that do matter. Living my life. Sleep always happens in the end. I go to bed and say goodnight, I will sleep 12 until 6. (still working on this) Now saying I will sleep 1 until 7. If I can not sleep, I will sleep eventually.

I use to be so scared I would never sleep again, afraid of a stroke or heart attack. I definitely catastrophized. Martin Reed encourages me at every podcast, you will sleep again. I have slept since April, which is 7 months, very seldom have a bad night thank goodness. The doctors just wanted me on meds like trazadone. I went on benadryl for a while, then it did not work any more so it was easy to give up. I have been known to take an ibuprofen but very seldom.

That is great! I am still a work in progress, had 3 nights of not sleeping because I got in my head, which is very easy for me to do. I just need to say sleep will come and then just forget about it, which sometimes is easier said than done. Take it a day at a time and know that I have gone without sleep before and I can do it again.
