I am going to see a hypnotherapist next week, who claims to have had success in treating insomnia. I was wondering if anyone else has seen a hypnotherapist to treat insomnia and what the result has been.
October 4, 2013 at 8:43 pm #14848I know that one member, dutchsailor, tried hypnotherapy. I don't think it worked for him, but I've reached out to him to see if he'll contribute to this thread.
Are you going for an initial consultation, or an actual session?

October 4, 2013 at 8:49 pm #14849My understanding is that there will be an actual session to start (90 minutes for 1st session). Hope it helps. I tried 8 sessions of acupuncture to treat insomnia but it didn't help.
October 8, 2013 at 7:10 pm #14850I have read a hypnotherapy book by Paul Mckenna but I don't think it really helped because I think my sleep is messed up because of my sleep cycle due to shift working.
That being said I am sure real one on one hypnotherapy will be more effective than just reading a book.

February 4, 2014 at 4:27 am #14852I have faith in hypnotherapy for various ailments or behaviours, but unfortunately found it was no help to me for insomnia. However everyone reacts differently and a lot has to do with the skill, understanding and methods of the therapist. It's worth giving it a try especially if they have had success previously. Are they willing to let you talk to any previously successful patients?
February 4, 2014 at 4:47 pm #14853I tried 5 sessions with a hypnotherapist but it didn't help my insomnia. The hypnotherapist claimed to have had success in treating people for insomnia, but told me that after 5 sessions if her therapy wan't causing any change in my insomnia then I was probably wasting my money if I attended additonal sessions.
February 4, 2014 at 5:47 pm #14854I looked into hypnosis for insomnia and was told it's success rate is poor. I did acupuncture for a pinched nerve and insomnia. The TX on the neck was great, the insomnia not so much, maybe 0.My physician has prescibed Trazadone. Wih the Marijuana and the Trazadone isleep very well, maybe too well, 10 hours is too much.
I don't know if this has helped anyone, I hope it has. Insomnia is a big problem and more should be done to find a Tx.

February 4, 2014 at 6:24 pm #14855How long have you been using Trazadone? I'm curious because a doctor I know recommended it, but I'm wary of pills. If you sleep 10 hours it doesn't sound like it has lost effect (at least not yet). Are you experiencing any side effects from the Trazadone?

Well at least they were honest
June 17, 2016 at 7:54 am #14857Hello all. I was taking Trazadone last year for my insomnia. My problem is not getting to sleep but staying asleep. I found Trazadone just made me feel too groggy the next day. And coming off it, Well, I had withdrawl symptoms… I shoukd have tapered my slowly. Since then I have been totally reliant on Melatonin, Valerian Root and also taking 5 HTP. The 5 HTP is meant to increase your serotonin, hence Increase Melatonin. Since joining this Forum, I have decided to quit the lot! I only take Magnesium Citrate before bed now. I've only gone two nights so far, but have slept much better and deeper. I still wake in the night maybe once or twice, and where as before if I woke in the night sometimes in desperation I would reach for the Valerian to relax me. I believe I have the mentality to think that a pill will help me. Therefore I am reinforcing the fact that I NEED pills to help me sleep which is wrong. I have a big day tomorrow and I know I will be under pressure tonight to sleep well, I hope I still have the sense to not take anything in the night if I feel I'm struggling. I've only decided to quit these supplements as they don't work and I wonder if they are actually stopping me from entering deep sleep. I'm no expert by any means… I will report back tomorrow.
June 23, 2019 at 6:29 am #30296I used to visit a couple of hypnotherapist. After the first session I slept. But after no sleep at all. I did couple more sessions and then decided that it is a waste of money. Later one hypnotherapist told me that I develop a “tolerance” to hypnotherapy sessions because I have such a brain and that`s it. I also tried hypnotherapy for sleep bought in Internet. With the same success. Initially it helped but later stopped helping me.
Now I see a specialist who work with trans. I did three sessions without any success. He says I need more. It is expensive for me. I started to think is he just faking me? During the sessions I feel a bit of relaxation. But that is it. No any improvement in my sleep. He is from Moscow. We are working with him by Skype. So I am thinking if I should continue seing him or should I quit and he is just lying to me.
