I have a long-term problem with waking in the early hours and not been able to get back to sleep. I don’t really know what has caused it but I think stress is part of the problem. I came across Insomnia Coach whilst googling insomnia. I daren’t drive at night because I worry about falling asleep at the wheel which restricts my social life. Any advice would be appreciated x

Hello CJ and welcome to the forum!

If you wake during the night (which is a normal part of sleep) and find it hard to fall back to sleep, then you aren’t sleepy enough for more sleep and/or arousal is too high for sleep to occur.

Typically, we see arousal being too high for sleep to occur if we start to put pressure on ourselves to sleep, put effort into sleep, or start battling with difficult thoughts, feelings, and emotions that the brain might be generating.
