I am not sure when these sleep issues started happening. Its around 20 years in which the changes started happening.I moved to a different climate and culture which I loved. Our social engagements became huge so a little alcohol helped ease that situation. My husband started snoring around that time.I had to switch my thyroid pill as the co. stopped making it.I could hear roosters dogs barking etc.I started taking melatonin which helped at first but then a hurricane came and destroyed our house and took most of our belongings. The next 4 months were hideous but over the next2 years things got better but my stress was at an all time high.We moved3 times and built a new home.My husband started to snore louder dogs kept barking. Then I developed a heart condition due to all this stress(better now) but I got hooked on sleeping pills and it took 4 months to wean off them. The husband is in a different room now,my room is very dark and quiet ,no noises,no alcohol, physically very active wear amber glasses in the evenings to block blue light, read until my eyes drop, take melatonin and only sleep 4 hours now.I follow Dr. Breus the sleep Dr.and have read everything about sleep issues.

        Hi Miles.
Sorry that you’ve had to go though all of these traumatic experiences.
It seems like you may have some trauma from all of these awful things that you have been through.
These traumas are maybe the reason you are having sleep problems. Could it be that you are experien cing a form of PTSD? From all that you’ve been through? Especially the hurricane!
Your dogs barking is not going to help you get to sleep. Maybe you could put them in another part of the house…….the room farthest from your room?
Regarding your hubbys snoring, could you ask him if he would sleep in another part of your house/ apartment? I’m sure he would oblige as I’m sure he loves you very much.
Lastly have you thought about a short course of sleeping tablets? Only a week’s worth, just so you can get some good, refreshing, restorative sleep? Emma W

Hello @milesthegolfer and thanks for sharing your story. Can you tell us a bit more about your current sleep pattern? When do you go to bed at night, when do you get out of bed to start your day in the morning, and roughly how many hours of sleep would you say you get on a typical night? Do you tend to find it hard to fall asleep at the start of the night, stay asleep through the night, or both?
