Well I’m about at the end of my rope with this, and I’m hoping someone here can relate (although I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy).

This happens when I first start to fall asleep at night. I will close my eyes and prepare myself to sleep. When I get comfortable and close my eyes, it maybe takes about 3-5 minutes until I start feeling weird sensations. These are hard to describe so I will do my best.

      1) Sometimes it feels like a part of me is moving, or dropping. Not all of me, but just random parts of me, when I know I’m not moving.

      2) I get a zapping or whooshing feeling in my head, almost like a really quick tense feeling that makes me jolt upright.

      3) I sometimes get sleep paralysis and it feels like my entire body is shaking during these episodes, almost like I’m having a seizure, but when I bolt awake I’m not.

      4) When I wake up suddenly my ears are ringing, and the whooshing/zapping feeling/noise is in full affect. This usually happens if I wake up suddenly. Then the more I wake up, the more the feeling/noise goes away.

I’ve started to video myself sleeping and it looks like I talk in my sleep, tickle my own face in my sleep, sometimes sleep with my neck crinked to the side in uncomfortable positions, my arm sticking straight up, etc.

It’s to the point now where I dread sleeping because I hate these feelings I get while falling asleep.

I also notice when I’m overly tired, that whooshing/zap feeling/noise is there when I’m still awake.

Does anyone else experience any of this? I haven’t had a sleep study done yet, that is obviously in the works for me.

But I’m just trying to see if in the mean time any one has any ideas, experience this as well, been told what it is etc.

I keep hearing stress/anxiety and being exhausted but it all feels very real to me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Glad to hear you are getting a sleep study done to investigate the potential presence of a sleep disorder other than insomnia. Hypervigilance may also be contributing to the sensation of sudden awakenings or being “jolted” awake. More on that in this thread:
