My problem is that I can’t stop thinking and that my thoughts are keeping me awake.

I read about journals to write up what bothers you, but I know my problems. And none is that urgent that it should steal my sleep.

And here is the surprising thing. I think about tons of stupid stuff when my head hits the pillow, e.g. old TV series, how to survive in Alaska in the snow, (I don’t even live there and have no plans to go there), how to design tents for nomads in China, about my neighbors financial situation, and so on.

Actually, 99% of what I am thinking at night that prevents me from falling asleep is NONE OF MY BUSINESS.

My mind races and races and the sleep drive has no chance.

The mantra saying “don’t think, don’t think” helped just 1 or 2 times in all my sleepless nights.

What is your method to puts your mind to sleep?

The simple reason could be you were just not sleepy enough when you were trying to sleep. Because if you were, you’d be out in no time. If you just can’t sleep, why force it? You can watch something funny or entertaining. Either get out of bed or just stay in, it doesn’t matter. The idea is to be okay with wakefulness and taking the pressure off trying to force sleep to happen. Apart from that, always get out of the bed at the same time every morning so you tend to get sleepy by a certain time at night. Best wishes to you.

Unfortunately, we can’t put the mind to sleep and the more we try to control what goes on in our mind, the more the mind pushes back and the more we get tangled up in the struggle.

Thoughts don’t stop us from sleeping — but battling with them can make sleep a lot more difficult!
