Here are a couple of period drama's and I will give their reasons why I liked them.

Upstairs Downstairs – showed life below stairs as well as up in a stately home

      Colditz – POW life

Saving private Ryan – what those brave men did

Downton Abbey – similar to upstairs downstairs.

Casualty 1906 – showed a hospital in the early 20th century, laughing gas and all (although it was no laugh experiencing it believe me). The man who discovered X-Ray lost his fingers due to radiation.

Titanic – some historical innacurracies here, but otherwise a good movie.

A for Acid – about John George Haigh and his murders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_George_Haigh for more info

Brides in the bath murders featuring Martin Kemp – http://www.met.police.uk/history/brides.htm for more info and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1267913/Solved-How-brides-bath-died-hands-ruthless-womaniser.html

Worst I have seen in a period drama is:

In a western or Victorian city in UK. I have seen no horse dung all over the street, originally it would have been all over the place.

Interior shots with a gas/candle lamp. You suddenly get a brighter light then it should have been.

Please feel free to add your own 🙂

My favorite period drama would have to be SungKyunKwan Scandal. It's a Korean drama, set during the late Joseon era. In the story, the main character (girl) enters a school under her brother's name (in that period, women weren't allowed in scholar schools) and there exploits and love stories all around.

It's my favorite not only for its accuracy, but it has a nice balance of serious and hilarious. The costumes and settings they use are also fantastic.

Oh I love Upstairs Downstairs. I was really weary of the “new” one they did this year, but I enjoyed that one too.

It's so cliched, but I really love Gone With the Wind too. I don't know what it is about that movie, but I'm just drawn to it.

I wasn't too sure of Gone with the wind when I first saw it. Bit once you get into it it's a great film showing the horrors of the American Civil war and what went on. i wish they would do one about the English Civil war instead of trying to namby pamby it. We have a re-enactment group called the Sealed Knot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sealed_Knot_(reenactment) for more info and http://www.thesealedknot.org.uk/ for the official website. I know there is one for the American Civil war. Not sure what their website is, if you know, can you please put a link to it?

Only thing is I don't like things that go bang as I find it scary, so I am not very keen on the guns they have at the shows.

If you are drawn to a certain period in history, this could mean that you had a past life in that era. I like second World war and Tudor because I had lives in both those centuries.
