I am new to this forum.

I have had insomnia for about 6 weeks now, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

I now have regular bouts of sleepless nights – i.e. not even a minute of sleep. I know that worrying keeps me awake. I tried not to worry by using breathing exercises, meditation, etc, but I still seem to have this nagging worry subconsciously of when I would fall asleep.

I have read a lot on the internet about CBT, sleep hygiene, relaxation techniques, etc and understand the concepts of free sleep training offered by insomnialand. It seems that nothing is working and I feel hopeless. Can anyone give words of assurance or encouragement that things will improve and if so how they can be improved?

I think my sleeplessness started about once a week last summer, and I didn't really pay attention to it then.

Around that time, there were the normal stresses in life, such as work, planning to move house, etc

About four months ago my wife was unwell, and we have just moved house then.

I suspect the above has caused stress without me realising it until the insomnia started. I could been depressed and this may still be the case now.

I have been reading about hypnotherapy recently. Would you or other members have experience on it?

            Hypnotherapy has been discussed here:

You may want to look at your basic sleep hygiene first; make sure you're not allotting too much time for sleep and that you're not overstimulated when you go to bed. Keeping a sleep diary for a couple of weeks can help identify issues with your sleep patterns that you may otherwise have missed.

              Dear Blau,

Try setting 'worry time' aside every day. Write down your worries, that frees your time up for potential sleep at bedtime. I also find writing down positive affirmations help at bedtime. Rather than writing 'I will sleep well' write 'I do sleep well'. It's like re-setting your brain.

              Hope this helps.
