I’ve had problems sleeping as long as I can remember.  As a teenager, I hated going to all night pajama parties because I knew I’d never get to sleep and I wouldn’t be able to sleep during the next day like all the other girls would.  I’m still not able to sleep in the daytime to make up missed sleep the night before.  Ive been on just about every sleep medication that’s come out and tried MANY natural herb remedies.  Some scrips worked but eventually my body adjusted to them and got less and less hours of sleep.  I’m now 75, and I’m still trying to find a way to get a good nights sleep.

        Hi there

I’m the same as you unfortunately. I can’t sleep during the day to try and catch up on missed night time sleep. My brain just doesn’t shut off.

I’m now averaging on 3 hours sleep nightly and still working full time although I have no idea how I function to be honest with you.

I’ve tried so many things go over the years to combat this debilitating insomnia, even a course of hypnosis but to no avail.

I really envy my husband who falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow and would love to be like that. Instead I just lie there next to him listening to him having a lovely long sleep!

Hello Barefoot, and welcome to the forum. What is the biggest sleep challenge you face? Do you find it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep (or both)? Do you feel sleepy when you go to bed at night?

Spongecake — it sounds as though your biggest issue is falling asleep at night. Does that sound right? Unfortunately, there is little clinical evidence that hypnosis is an effective treatment for insomnia so it isn’t all that surprising that you didn’t find it helpful. Have you looked into CBT for insomnia?

Hi Martin and thanks for your support.

I’ve certainly found the daily emails from you helpful and it’s made me feel less stressed about getting sleep.

I did invest in a weighted blanket this week which has so far helped me get off to sleep quicker although I’m still only getting on average 4 hours.

I have tried CBT but not really got on with it although this was couple of years ago and I was in a different frame of mind, so I may well try it again.

In the meantime, I thank you once again for your support. ☺

You’re very welcome, Spongecake! CBT-I techniques take a lot of effort and truly noticeable results usually take a few weeks. This can lead to a high drop-out rate when it comes to CBT-I programs that don’t come with a lot of individual support, feedback, and guidance from a sleep coach or other health professional.

It sounds as though you are in a better frame of mind these days so this could be an option worth exploring.
