No hiding! I know what you mean exactly.

I love Big Fish, and liked Nightmare before Christmas when I was a child, but honestly I don't consider myself a fan honestly since his work just is bland I find, I do appreciate him as an artist just everything he does just seems so boring, it's different than what everyone else does but it just seems like his work is hollow, to me it feels like he does what he does but isn't happy doing it or something.

One thing that ruined Nightmare Before Christmas was EVERYONE loves it now, it's the new thing to love, especially where I live, every girl who isn't popular loves it and they all got tattoos of it, even the ones who never seen it!

I used to not be a fan of Tim Burton movies..until I started going to the theatre to watch them. Something about seeing them in the theatre is different. You can really get the full affect of his creativity and visual effects. The first movie of his I saw in the theatre was Coraline and it was AMAZING. Now, I ONLY watch Tim Burton moview in theatres. It has a totally different effect!

After reading some posts here, I started reading 'The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy'.

I'll let you know later how it's coming along but it looks promising…

Let us know what you think. That one has been on my list for a while!

Hey, I don't know why I'm not seeing all these replies until later! Yes, its by the same author and it came out later. How is the Tony Blair book?

    'Martin' wrote on '07:

Is that the other book by the same author? If so, no I haven't read it but I've been told it's good. I might put it on the reading list when I'm done with Tony Blair!

I didn't realize tryptophan was found in dark chocolate. I thought it was just found in animal products like milk and turkey. I know that bananas and whole grains are supposed to make you sleepy (not from tryptophan). I usually eat a bowl of old fashion oats with a natural sweetener like honey or agave nectar before bed. Not sure if it makes me sleepy, but part of the night time routine.

    'Martin' wrote on '08:

Apparently dark chocolate and whey protein isolate contain tryptophan. Probably not in particularly high doses but it may be worth investigating:

If no other members chime in on this one after a few days, I'll send your question out in a bulletin. Our members have tried lots of different treatment options so someone must have given tryptophan a whirl!

I have never taken tryptophan before, although I have taken other herbal things. I have taken melatonin, and other combos of herbs that I got at the store, but never noticed a difference in sleeping patterns.

    'xdunlapx' wrote on '07:

Has anyone tried taking 500mg or higher of the vitamin (?) tryptophan? I know it's the stuff in lots of foods that if eaten in high enough quantity makes you sleepy… So I'm exploring herbal (etc) kinds of drugs that might help me get to sleep, which is my problem usually. I know they sell it in drug stores and on amazon (where I'm currently looking) and just want to know if anyone has tried it?

    Welcome!

It sounds like you are concerned about your weight. I used to work in a weight loss clinic, so if you want to chat about ideas for losing the weight let me know!

    'xdunlapx' wrote on '07:

Hello everyone. My search to get to sleep regularly has led me here. I tend to sleep during the day, not sure why but I just can't get to sleep at night and usually I fall asleep between 6 and 10am. I don't know if it's insomnia or a circadian problem or too much caffeine. I'm highly addicted to caffeine, I drink sometimes 2 12-pks of diet coke a day. I've always drank a lot of diet soda (for years) but only the past few years have had sleeping problems. I'm going to start buying caffeine free along with regular caffienated diet coke and only drink caffeine free in the evening and at night to see if that helps. It's going to be scary for me as I'm so addicted to the caffeine… But I can do it, I've got to do it to see if it fixes my 'insomnia'. I'm at the desperate for change mark. I want to sleep at night. I really really do. It's frustrating as hell not to be able to.

In 2006 I was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder with generalized anxiety disorder. I've been on medications for it since March that year. When I started on Seroquel for BP I was able to sleep at night but the problem was I was eating 5 times a night (IN my sleep!) all full bowls of cereal each time. I gained nearly 100 pounds. So I switched back to Risperdal and started having sleeping problems since I wasn't on a heavy sedative. Yes the first treatment for it was Lithium but that made me a complete zombie. It was pure hell. And I gained a lot of weight on it, too. Already being obese it didn't help matters. I'm now doing well on Risperdal and Lexapro (though double the recommended high dose of lexapro) for the anxiety I get. Also my anxiety started getting so bad recently that the psychiatrist prescribed Neurontin (which is off-label for anxiety) and it works fine for me.

So that's me in a nut-shell. I'm not usually sleep deprived but I do sleep at very strange hours and sometimes all day, rarely all night. So my goal is to find something, anything that works for me to help me sleep **at night**.

I was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes and was put on Metformin. For years and years I've been complaining to GP about extreme tiredness. Sleeping all day because of it (again, not at night)… The day after I started taking Metformin I was awake! I was no longer constantly extremely tired, i mean the kind of tired that lingers in your head that you feel like you are 100 pounds heavier because of it. Oddly enough this hasn't helped get me on a regular sleep schedule. But my blood sugar is doing much better.

I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 360 pounds. I haven't been to the doctor in over 2 months and that was the last time I was weighed. I think I was 365 lbs at that point in time. I have tried diet after diet after diet and nothing works for me to lose any amount of weight, other than maybe 5 pounds… I always gaine it back and then some. Sorry for the extremely long post but I'm needing sleep and feel like chatting. Yeah it's one sided but that's ok. It gets it off of my chest. 🙂 I've noticed that I'm losing a bit of weight (not sure how though, i haven't changed my diet in the 2 months). My belly looks smaller when I look down towards my feet and my face isn't so obscenely fat, yeah its still bad fat but not grossly so. So I'm hoping when I go to the doctor in 2 weeks for my 3 month check up I'll have lost some weight. I hope to see 20 pounds off but I doubt that.

Ok enough chatting to myself. Bye bye.

Yes, I saw it. Often times when you read a book first then see the movie, the movie seems to come up short. Although I thought the movie was really good, even after reading the book. Did you read 1000 Splendid Suns? I heard that was good too but never read it.

    Hey Martin,

I'm just now seeing some of these posts! I try to check, but sometimes I can't remember everything that I posted so I don't se the replies I guess. Wow, so you have lived in all those places?! I loved Oregon when I was there. I used to think that I wanted to live in a big city, but after living in NYC (Harlem) for a while and Seoul (South Korea), I realized that I love visiting big cities but don't want to live in one. I was considering moving to Oregon for a while and still might one day. My mom lives in Fresno, which isn't that great but there are a lot of beautiful places to visit around there with just a short drive. I was just in San Francisco in January. Really cool city, that was the first time I had been there. Less than 300 people?! That sounds awesome. What is the town called?

    'Martin' wrote on '28:

I love Oregon so far. I've been to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Nevada, Arizona, California, Alaska and now Oregon. It's my favorite state so far. It has so much to offer – an awesome coastline, wonderful mountains, beautiful forests and friendly people.

Originally after leaving Brooklyn, our goal was to move to San Francisco. However we decided that we were fed up with paying ridiculous prices for tiny apartments and that we needed a break from 'city life'. So we took the plunge and now live in a town of less than 350 people!

Where in California does your mom live?

Hi Martin, I just happened to see this post. After this semester is over I will have another 1.5 years and I can't wait! Except for that whole bar exam thing. How are you liking Oregon?

I feel the same at night. I try to read when I can, but sometimes I am to tired to read and can't even keep my eyes open. Sometimes I feel so tire I can't even move or talk but just don't fall asleep. Same for me..my mind races from topic to topic and I don't even realize it until after significant time has passed. Yes, very annoying

    'Kik' wrote on '03:

I daydream (or night dream I suppose).

The internet only takes me so far into the night and then I read but eventually my eyes get tired even if I'm really enjoying a book. My body might be ready to sleep but my brain refuses to shut down and I can't relax.

When I daydream I don't generally think about anything specific, partly because I have so much trouble focussing on anything anyway but I do become aware that I am zooming through random thoughts and not any closer to falling asleep. Annoying.
