What time of day do you take your meds? Generally those that worsen insomnia only do that if you take them right before bed. I had that problem with Cymbalta for the first 3 days I took it. I switched to taking it in the morning and have not had one since!

And by “one” I meant a sleeping problem due to my meds…. Bwahaha. I hate bad grammar.

My family doctor changed the dosage for one of my meds. I'll start it tonight. She also gave me some interesting info. A few sites say that anti-depressants make insomnia worse. She told me that some anti-depressants do but the one I'm taking doesn't. I'm so tired my eyes look like 2 pi.. holes in the snow and I have to go to work tomorrow. I can't allow myself to be too hopeful.

Flight would be awesome. Talking about flight, when you dream about flying (come on, we all have) how do you do it? In my dreams I always flap my arms really fast when running and then boom, I take off. Curious to know if I'm employing the same method as others!

I never flap my arms. But I do run, almost like a plane. I run really fast until my feet lift off the ground, and then I just glide upwards. It's very fluid and seamless, almost like when you ride in a car with the windows rolled down. I love it. I lucid dream, so my dreams are always very vivid and AMAZING! It was one thing I missed during my 6 months of insomnia.

Actually it can, if your insomnia is due to trouble breathing/lack of oxygen or one of the sleep apneas.

OK, yes this is a bit silly, but it should be fun, too!

If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?

I can never decide between invisibility or being able to fly. If I really had to choose, I'd go with flying – I can't imagine a single boring moment. Invisibility just sounds like an expensive lawsuit waiting to happen, but it could be a lot of fun, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWiaeMvYuBc

    You?

I would want the power to heal myself and others! I can't stand when those around me are suffering and I think it would be awesome to place my hands on them and heal a wound, or cancer, or even insomnia.

If I were to do something a little less selfless it would be to have a siren like voice. I've seen some super powers where the person can coax other people. I'd like to coax them with my voice. That would be sweet.

I just want to touch people's lives. I have three big dreams. The first is to finish the book I'm writing and get it published. I want to be the kind of author that people read and think, “How did she come up with this? It's beautiful!” The second is to continue with my band, and get to do what I love–writing and singing. I don't want to be huge, just big enough that I could do it full time. My husband's going to be a doctor so I'm not the one earning the bacon. I just love being on stage and singing the songs that I have written to share my experiences with other people. I want them to help people understand that they are not alone. My third dream is to become a psychologist, because I want to work with rape and domestic abuse victims and help them get to some kind of normalcy and acceptance in their lives. These are my dreams. I'm working at all three of them. I just want to help people! 🙂

Every day I get a good sleep, I live it like it's never going to happen again, and it feels great!

Cherry I am so happy for you. After reading one of your posts about the CBT, I tried a couple of the things you wrote about. The one that has really helped me was telling myself that everything would be okay if I did not sleep well. I would tell myself that yes, I will be very tired, but it's only one day and that I would make it through the day. It really helped me to not get as anxious on sleepless nights. I have also been sleeping better..not perfect but good for me. I started taking 3mg of Melatonin per night every night as a daily supplement. I don't know if it is really working, but I am going to keep taking it. Congratulations on graduating! Are you still considering grad school? Also, congrats on your new puppy. What kind is he/she? The sleeping probs were just a tough period for you that made you mentally stronger in the long run. It sounds like everything is going wonderfully for you now:-)

My counselor did amazing things for me. I am still considering grad school. I'm going to start studying for the GRE very soon. Before I go to grad school, though, I am trying things out with my band. We've got talent, and continually get more fans each time we play, so I want to let this experience ride. Then I will apply. My puppy is a Maltese. His name is Chester Bennington and he is my fur baby. He has also helped with my sleep and mood. I've got him if I can't sleep, as he is always ready to play.

How are you? How is school? Have things gotten any better?

I hope that I can. I might be in church/asleep. The night before my band has a late gig, but I will try to make it!

I know this was a while ago but I'm just checking up on the site and have time to write. Love that your name is Ulysses. I too am an aspiring author—/rockstar/psychologist haha, whichever I can make happen. Hope that all is well, and see you around!

    Hi Jasmine!

I'm Jenny. This site is great for support and helping you feel less alone. I've got anxiety too, which is what caused my insomnia. I'm on cymbalta and ambien. My counselor wanted to try a long term anxiety/depression medication, instead of short term, fast acting, high powered benzodiazipine. Do you like xanax and klonopin? Do they help? I'm just wondering, because I never actually took them, but I always wondered about them. Do they work quickly?

    Welcome!

I'm having this same problem right now. I'm not even stressed, more anxious in a good way. But my thoughts are all over. I'm trying to practice my mindfulness. Look into that, it's about dumping the thoughts, or being aware of them but getting them out and just living in the moment. I find it really helps. That, or I play solitaire until I'm too bored to think. 🙂

I mainly am signed into msn and skype 24/7 and listen to music a lot. A lot of John Prine, I also try to deal with my chronic back and leg pain which is one of the main reasons for my chronic insomnia.

I also make films with a friend and spend a lot of time saving photos of creepy artwork and creepy pictures, pictures of things like what I find creepy or un nerving to me.

Also pictures of giant creatures like the kraken or lots of sea creatures in mythology. As well as high res pictures and wallpapers that I like and are odd. I also save creepy videos of scary or un nerving and weird stuff on youtube in a playlist I have.

I am very into the horror genre of stuff and not like Saw or stuff. That's just torture porn. I am more into found footage and un nerving stuff that has a good atmosphere and creepy noises(not loud jumps or screams)

Haha that freaks me out. I can't handle that stuff. But part of that is because I have super huge anxiety. I think that stuff would keep me up all night worrying. I'm to the point where I just get up for a half hour and surf the web, sometimes take a tiny 1/4 or 1/8 piece of ambien if I'm too worried about stuff, and then I usually get back to sleep. I play solitaire until I'm really bored. That makes me so tired that sleep seems like a good idea.

That's interesting. Has anyone else experienced nightmares when taking trazodone? Is it listed as a known side-effect?

I had a friend who took it and had awful dreams. She also had ambien, just in case, and one night she took one of them and forgot she had while on the meds, so she took the other one too and she got really sick and was throwing up and everything.

I think you can take Benadryl, and Lunesta as well.

What she was taking is the name of Lunesta in other place I think. And Lunesta is not supposed to be taken during pregnancy. It is a “C” medicine which means it should only be taken if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks to a baby.

I think that Benadryl and Ambien are in the same class. And I actually have seen many things saying they are B OR C, so talk to your doctor. But, my sister-in-law was prescribed 5 mgs of ambien for her pregnancy insomnia, and her doctor said there were almost no risks.
