Hi Rochelle. I too suffer from anxiety. Doctor put me on anti depressants, day time anxiety pills and sleeping pills. I had had enough!!!! I hate pills. So, I have weaned off of them. Although this is fine a done, the anxiety is getting worse. I just started seeing a psychotherapist (yesterday) and am hopeful she can help, without drugs! She doesn’t condone meds either. I have strong support with family and they are keeping me from giving up. Today is NOT a good day for me. Almost called my doctor to see about meds again. The fact that I hate pills and was thinking of going on them gives you an idea how my day is going. You need support to get through this for sure. I’ve had this all summer and am at the end of my rope. BUT, I take a step back and try to keep going. I push myself to stay active and not fall down that rabbit hole and giving up. My sleep consists of taking melatonin before bed. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Or maybe it never works and it depends on my day as to how i will go to sleep. Who knows! I am anxious about night time and wondering if I will sleep. I think Martin’s free course can help with dealing with this. I started it but ended up stopping (for no good reason). I am going to re-start it and give it a better go. Maybe you can use it also? I wish you the best and please don’t give up. It’s so easy to give up. I keep telling myself I am me and I am strong! Take care.

Hi Jerrycanister. I agree about the rat poison, zopiclone. So many people I talk to have used this pill and all agree too! Found out a family member has been on it for 10 years!!! She does have medical issues but she too would rather not be on it. Ive ditched all pills and oils and am now trying melatonin for the next 3 weeks. It was recommended by a nurse I spoke with. So far, it has given me some relief. I do wake in the night but have fallen back to sleep, which didn’t happen before. I am, however, still very anxious during day. I’m going to a psychotherapist next week to see what we can do. I wish you well and hope you get relief.

    Hi Scott ctj

I’ve hit a wall with the sleep window. I find it difficult because sometimes I don’t sleep at all. I get up a lot during the night. Yes, have left phone in other room but not always. I don’t touch it 99 % of the time if it’s with me at bedttime. I know a lot of my anxiety is because I’m exhausted during the day and so that is why I have anxiety. I am off all meds including cbd. My days are shakey for sure. I have an appt with a doctor regarding sleep apnea Oct 21. I started using otrivin (nose spray) before bed. It seems to help with the nose/throat issue. Not sure why, but it does. I do, however, have bouts of irregular breathing. I do a lot of deep breathing. I’m not feeling the best these days. I know I need cbti and will figure out how to manage that. Thanks for your interest.

Here’s an update. Off to sleeping pills and on cbd/thc. No sleep last night and here I am again at 2:43am on my phone. I’ve been out of bed at least 6 times. My body won’t let me sleep. If I feel am dozing off I wake startled because throat closed. Used to be randomly now it’s all the time…hence no sleep. Help!!

Hi Chee 2308. We seem to go down that rabbit hole so fast after visiting the doc. So many pills!!! I am officially off all 3 as of tonight. Last of the 3 was a sleeping pill which I found out was so addictive. It’s been he’ll getting off. I had mentioned I started cbd/thc to help. I don’t see much of an improvement. I speak with a health professional today to discuss what I’m taking and dosage. I’m writing this at 3:27 am and have not slept at all. I know I’m not supposed to be on a device, but I’ve had it with reading. Tried painting but got frustrated. I’m cranky and everyone knows it. I hope this week turns a corner now that I’m off the sleeping pill.

Hi DanielBme. I did some investigating about the glasses and seems they are no use. I believe the tv, any devices do emit the wrong light when we are trying to go to sleep or shortly after using these devices. The best thing to do… read a book or do something else not in your bedroom. Of all people, I know this is hard, especially when that’s how you existed prior to insomnia. Both my husband and I love to “go upstairs” to watch one of our shows. He’s fine as he falls asleep during the show! I, on the otherhand (lately), do not. It really drives me nuts I have to be so careful now. I know it’s best for me but it’s kinda a downer.

I hope you get to fall asleep soon! This situation is beyond my comprehension. Why me??

Hi Danielbme. Good question! I have the same issue. Can’t keep the eyes open longer because I hadn’t slept the night before! Seems like a vicious circle! Also, do the anti blue glasses really work?

Hi Allisonsomnia. Seems we are on the same track (your other post regarding hypic jerks).

I have the same fear as to how I am going to sleep without meds. Although mine started not working about a month ago and I was NOT going to increase the dosage. I am on Zopiclone. I think the way to go is to get off the meds totally. Then start the sleep restriction, etc. One thing I am learning through this journey is to take it slowly. I was going all over the place to find answers but nothing happened. From acupuncture, holistic psychologist, meds from fam doc and probably more that I can’t remember. One that I do remember is what I am doing now. Our govt (Health Canada) has a program for Medical Cannibis. I thought I’d try that instead of meds. So far, it’s been a bit challenging as I have to find the right dosage. I do have a health professional helping with that, but ultimately it’s me who makes the decision. So, I think my plan is to get off Zopiclone totally (soon) keep up with the Medical Cannibis, then look into joining Martins course (depends on a few things). It’s not easy for sure, but if you have a plan in place it makes the decisions easier. I also have great support from my husband, children and friends. That helps so much. Good luck!

Hi Allisoninsomnia! I know exactly what you are talking about. It happened last night. I was on side and was woken up with a jerk and gasping for air. Then, up for the entire rest of the night. So, no sleep at all. I had only been asleep less than an hour. I don’t know how to stop this. I’ve had it for quite a few years. Seems it comes and goes. Last night was one I had not had in a while. I hope it’s not a trend. I think you should probably get out of bed if you feel you won’t go back to sleep. And the breathing thing is good too. Gets the heart rate down.

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I know that doesn’t help but nice to know someone feels your pain.

I have looked into medical cannabis. Had a medical professional prescribe the dosage. I figured it would be better than taking anxiety drugs. Just started last week so observing how it works. The bedtime stuff I can feel although haven’t slept through. Have an appt on Monday to discuss prescription and dosage. I’m reaching!!!!

Hi alabates. May I ask why you went off cipralex? I was put on that, was only on for 21 days. I do not like pills. I’m very stubborn when it comes to that. My anxiety has me in a tizzy as I haven’t slept more than 2 hours this past 3 days. Are you better on cipralex?

Hi shattered. I hear you! It’s 5:53 am here and have been up since 3am or maybe earlier. Your story is a carbon copy to mine. I’m trying hard to stay hopeful and am praying I’ll get out of this. Martin is so knowledgable about this that am sure something will kick in. His tips are encouraging. Let’s try hard to pull each other out of this!
