      Hi all, i’m new to this and am delighted to have found something that I feel positive about to help me sleep. I have primal insomnia , I saw a sleep specialist a few years ago and told me straight out he couldn’t help me as it’s from childhood, I’ve had it all over the years but it would come and go, I would have periods of good sleep more than bad sleep so got through ok, but now it’s at an all time high, due to some worries that are now being dealt with but sleep still extremely poor, all during the summer I saw a lot of 6am’s on the clock, awake tossing and turning all night long. then even falling asleep at 6am would be wide awake at 8 but as soon as i’d put my foot on the floor I would be dizzy, nauseous, etc, it’s a vicious cycle . i started staying up late 2 nights ago until I feel sleep, getting up at 8am in the mornings and staying up (the urge to stay in bed is overwhelming) don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep it up as I’m so tired. hoping to get some sort of understanding about it all here. I worry that my health is going to suffer because it’s been so long since I’ve had a restful sleep, I have heart palpatations also and eye/headaches and feel completely low and hopeless. Still I’m here so must have some hope!

        Hi shattered. I hear you! It’s 5:53 am here and have been up since 3am or maybe earlier. Your story is a carbon copy to mine. I’m trying hard to stay hopeful and am praying I’ll get out of this. Martin is so knowledgable about this that am sure something will kick in. His tips are encouraging. Let’s try hard to pull each other out of this!

          Hello Elmtree,

          Thank you for your message, yes it’s so difficult, I’m listening to Martin’s Youtube videos and it’s such a relief to know there are tools there to use for a better sleep life! I suppose it’s going to take time as it’s years of insomnia, it’s not going to disappear overnight. Yes let’s both pull each other out of it!! Here’s to a road of recovery!

            I’m sorry to hear that a specialist said they couldn’t help you because you’ve experienced sleep issues since childhood. In my experience, that doesn’t usually suggest someone won’t experience improvements with some behavioral changes that can create better conditions for sleep to occur and some exploration of the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that can influence our relationship with sleep.

              Hi Martin,

              Thanks for your reply, he more or less said that it’s primary insomnia so my brain is firmly wired in that way, suggested I could try sleep restriction at some point but not then as my child was a toddler so wouldn’t be a good time, also advised me to throw away every book I had about sleep and all sleeping aids I had and to drink tea if I wanted at night as the more I tried to control sleep the less it would help. At that time I had such a strict regime about sleep and the whole family had to abide with me… the irony… they all slept great and I was wide awake all night. Thank you for all your information free for people suffering, you really are great and I’m getting great help just from listening and reading.
