seenafterscene✘ Not a client
I don't read enough (shame on me) to justify the cost of an e-reader. And IMO, I agree, nothing beats actual, tangible paper (I know, not eco-friendly, but I LIKE books and magazines.) If anyone is interested in trying it, Amazon offers an e-reader app for just about any format imaginable: PC, Mac, iPhone/Touch, Blackberry, etc. Although, ideally, it is best read on a full size monitor, at least, you can take it on the go, for when you have time to kill. Barnes & Noble offers a free e-reader app too, but to my knowledge it only works on iPhone/Touch.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientThis is kind of a side note, but I have an amazing ambient sound generator that often helps get me to sleep. You need an iPhone or iPod Touch but it is far better than stuff I've paid way more money for. (I think the app was like…$5). It allows a variety of looping (long) sounds that can be adjusted, mix mutliple audio tracks, everything from rain to wind to chimes and everything in between, you can adjust a lot, like you can keep it running all night, or set a timer, or have it gradually reduce itself to mute. I'll have to get the name later, I'm sorry, only up for a few secs.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientConversation between Donnie Darko and his therapist:
“What did Roberta Sparrow say to you?”
“She said that every living creature on Earth dies alone.”
“How did that make you feel?”
“It reminded me of my dog Callie. She died when I was eight, and she crawled underneath the–the porch.”
“To die?”
“To be alone.”

seenafterscene✘ Not a clientSaw two excellent films, two nights in a row.
1. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. If Scorsee's “The Departed” is arguably one of the best remakes ever made (with him finally winning an Oscar to prove it), equally legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog's remake (total re-do) starring Nic Cage and the underrated Eva Mendes is the arguably the best remake that no one bothered to watch. Fair warning: It is insanely intense & disturbing.
2. Summer Hours. Oliver Assayas is pretty much my favorite contemporary French filmmaker, and with this film he returns to his roots making the kind of 'old school” French films he and others were making in the 90s (and 80s). But he adds some interesting layers to it, and it has plenty of his New French New Wave pinache to a traditional style. It's ultimately about loss…and the objects and value & safety attached that they leave behind. I can see why it made into the Criterion collection.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientWelcome. Everyone here is awesome. We're a good bunch of people. I hope you enjoy it here.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientI hope it was okay, but I took a peek too, Mike.
Very impressive, esp. considering it's something totally new to you.
Interacting a lot with people older than I am (I'm always helping people figure out computer/gadget stuff), and younger than I am, and of course people my age, has really helped me understand how age and growing up with technology–computers, gadgets, etc. along with other various speculative factors make it hard.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm on Twitter all the time, but I finally got around to joining Facebook, and I can't for the life of me figure it out.
It's especially excellent that you are able to use your insomnia productively. I wish I could, but insomnia and creativity/productivity doesn't mix for me.
You found some great photos and I liked the progression of each one in your video, it was kind of cool how you would show one slightly out of focus, then the next step would be the other photo gone, and the out-of-focus one would be clear. It was a neat effect and flow. Very nice job, thanks for sharing.

Fair enough. My coping mechanisms for getting to sleep and staying awake are often not…ones I would suggest either.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientIn particular, these past few weeks, since much of my time has been spent tossing and turning in bed, or just lying there (thank you to my iPod for keeping me company, oh, and my stuffed animals.) Like I just went through a bout recently, I'm still three hours into my day and trying to catch up from all the “lost” time. I honestly think if one added up the time I was (awake) and lying in bed, versus times spent outside of bed, that the bed would win.
I DO find naps helpful (indeed, essential for me on a daily basis–sleep or not)…but it's not something I would suggest to everyone, from what I hear, most people find it makes falling asleep at night even worse–or you get the wonderful thing happening of waking up at like 3amn.
Someone else posted a thread about “forcing yourself to stay awake” or even “willingly” staying awake (like refusing to sleep.) I experience it regularly, and based on the threads a lot of other people do too, Ms. Red, so you're not alone.
seenafterscene✘ Not a clientHello Ms. Red. Glad to have you here, welcome.
Red is one of my favorite colors to wear actually, but it's frustrating, because if I wear a red shirt and go to Target, I'm very likely to get asked questions from people that assume I work there. Lol.

“I go to the counter, and go to order my tea, and it was like $1.07 or something, and I go to pull out my wallet, and he's like, “N-n-n-n-n-m-o. I got it. (pause) 7 quarters, really???”

seenafterscene✘ Not a clientI was so excited when BAD BOYS finally arrived on BLU. I bought it without even thinking about it. (Considering it is Sony pictures, and Sony has a huge stake in BLU, it really baffles me it took them this long to release it.) Suffice to say, I was entertained (funny, good action), but I almost instantly sold it on eBay…I guess maybe my standards were lower back then??? It wasn't a horrible movie, just not the one I remembered loving and watching repeatedly on DVD. (P.S. Talking about the Micheal Bay directed, Will Smith/Martin Lawrence/Tea Leoni movie, not the other movie of the same name.)

That's quite impressive given the severity of what you've described elsewhere. I think we could all maybe, “learn” a lot from you, because you seem to cope so well with it, despite it being bad.
