Hello folks this is my first post.
I have completed Martin’s course and still really struggling. Prior to the course I had already done a lot of CBT training was quite the expert at sleep restriction. I have a large collection of very poor colouring ins of star wars characters that I did to stay awake until my sleep window( this was in a previous CBT course) that sleep window was very strict- from 2am until 6 am. It did work very well and I would fall asleep- instantly. This was 2 years ago and over time I tried to bring it back to get more sleep but never seemed to work. I have been following sleep restriction for a few years now. And eventually settled on going to bed around midnight and getting up at six- 7 am. I was getting 4 hours and forty five minuets sleep. I generally fall asleep instantly – within a min or two- but wake up and not fall back asleep. A few nights a week every single week I don’t go to bed at all – I am not up cleaning the house- I have so low energy that I am sitting quietly reading a book or watching tv- I am now too tired to do colouring in. Really bizarre- i am extremely tired and stagger around like I am drunk. I was having a beer at 6 pm- but have stopped that. Never was able to do the getting out of bed and back into bed part of things until Martin’s course. have now been doing this for a few weeks and wondering how long it takes to get results- wondering if anyone can advise how long before you learn to fall back asleep.

I would love to get 6 hours sleep.
      Thank you for your time.
      cheers
      Jill

Have you tried ACT yet? Some of us here have had good results with it and there is a thread (a very long one) devoted to it. I did Martin’s course first and got better but not all the way. Then I found ACT. Read “The Sleep Book” by Dr. Guy Meadows to learn about it. Its focus is on learning how to reduce the anxiety so that sleep naturally comes. I’ve been sleeping very well now for over 3 months, many times sleeping 8-9 hours (I don’t have to get up early.)

Yes Deb- thank you very much for replying to me. Believe it or not -I was inspired by one of your posts about ACT and went and got the book yesterday by Guy Meadows. I have not tried this before- but read the whole book yesterday and tried to implement it last night. Actually has a very good sleep – about 6 hours and fifteen mins. Yes- I went to bed greeting my thoughts and saying ” welcome ” and all that. Very odd and all- but kind of appealing. Thank you again for responding to me. cheers Jill xoxo

That’s great Jill! If you have any questions about it, just write again here or on the ACT thread. It can be tricky and is not as straight forward as CBT-I. Good luck!
