I know that you should not nap during the day but sometimes I cannot help myself. I wake up feeling much better andI am able to be productive.

Naps aren’t always bad, Kathleen — as long as you are sleeping well at night, and the naps aren’t making it harder for you to fall asleep at night.

Sleep pressure (or sleep drive) helps us fall asleep at night. It starts off low in the mornings and gets stronger as the day progresses. When sleep pressure reaches a certain point, we fall asleep.

Unfortunately, daytime naps can reduce this sleep pressure. Although a nap feels great in the short-term, it can lead to longer-term sleep issues since it can make it harder for us to fall asleep at night. This leads to us becoming ever-more reliant on daytime naps and becoming ever-more convinced that we can’t sleep at night.

How well do you sleep at night? How long do you normally nap for each day, and when do you take your naps, Kathleen?
