Hi, this is the second time in my life I’ve had really bad insomnia. The first was in 2016 when I got sick with some pretty severe digestive issues. I really didn’t sleep much for 6 months but eventually recovered. I don’t really remember how I got better from the insomnia that time. This time I’ve been struggling for 2 months ever since I took a medication that effected my sleep. Even though I quickly discontinued the medication the insomnia and anxiety had all ready taken hold. I’m sleeping every other night. So a good 6-8 hours one night, then none the next. And repeat. Trying lots of supplements, meditation and exercise but still struggling to break the cycle. I’m British and I think being far from home doesn’t help. I also have two kids. My doctor has prescribed me an antidepressant for the anxiety. Any suggestions?

A Brit moving to the US and developing insomnia? That sounds just like my story!

Sleeping every other night is often a symptom of allotting too much time for sleep — a common behavior when we are striving for more sleep. With this in mind, you might find it helpful to explore whether the amount of time you allot for sleep is appropriate for the amount of sleep you averaged over the past week or two.

        I hope this helps!
