      Hey all,
Needing some support here. I finished the course around 18 months ago. It really helped me alot. I feel like I was a newbie with insomnia but it really made me understand my feelings and judgements associated with sleep. I still revert to using the tools on nights Ive needed them and eventually it has helped. But I’m feeling like I’m stuck this week. I’m having the feeling where I’m dosing off and I’m suddenly woken by a surge of adrenaline. I have experienced this before but it usually simmers off after the first night. The first night it happened this week, I just accepted that this feeling was there and let it be there (didn’t sleep) then following night and night after that same thing (eventually fell asleep) but this feeling has continued each night and now I’m feeling like I don’t want to fall asleep or get into that dosing off stage in fear of that feeling. Any suggestions or support would greatful. Thanks 🙏

It can feel confusing and frustrating when difficulties show up after things have been going well for so long! And, there’s nothing unique or unusual in that. Nights vary. Days vary.

You have the experience, the strength, and the knowledge to get through this part of your journey — just as you have overcome difficulties in the past.

When you woke and experienced that surge of adrenalin, you practiced accepting it and allowing it to be there. What made you choose to respond in that way?

Thanks for your response Martin. Upon reflection, I realised that although these feelings are very uncomfortable and scary and I don’t want them here, they aren’t harmful. So I’m allowing them to still be there without fearing them (still hard) and by doing this, instead of having the feelings there all through the night, they’ve soften a little bit and come and go and some nights I don’t feel them.

Thanks for sharing, Becc! Your superpower of self-reflection helped you realize that although those feelings are difficult and unpleasant, they aren’t harmful — and that battling with them only gives them more power and influence and makes them more difficult.

As you practice making space for them to exist they are better able to come and go — and, without the addition of struggle, they can soften a little and become less powerful.

Reducing resistance can also require less energy and attention, making it easier for you to do more of what matters each day.
