Hi everyone
Well, I reasoned that it was only right that I should lead the introductions section by introducing myself! My name is Martin Reed. I am 29 years old and live in New York City. Originally, I'm from the UK but I moved to the US in June 2008 to marry my American fiancée (who is now my wife).
I am
notno longer a chronic insomniac. However, I do still suffer from occasional periods of sleeplessness – and my frustration with not being able to find a good online resource of information and support prompted me to develop Insomnia Land.I'll be working hard to ensure this community flourishes into a fantastic resource for everyone affected by insomnia. I want Insomnia Land to be genuine, respectful and fun. I know that together we can reach these goals. I can't do it alone, though. I need your help.
I look forward to getting to know all of you better, and making Insomnia Land something fantastic, unique and fun!

February 1, 2010 at 6:39 pm #8895I am very excited to get to know everyone here! Maybe even snag a lady, I kid I kid!
February 2, 2010 at 5:51 am #8896Forgive me, but I have no self-control: New York is the city that never sleeps. waka waka
Okay, now I can be serious.
February 2, 2010 at 9:45 pm #8897New York City! Cool! What part of the UK are you from? I'm from Minnesota but I'm living in Cardiff with my British husband! 😀
February 2, 2010 at 10:06 pm #8898I was born in London, raised in Hertfordshire and lived for a couple of years in Cornwall – where my mother now lives. Looks like you did the same thing as me, just in reverse – start up your own intro topic; I'd love to know more 🙂

April 24, 2010 at 5:36 pm #8899For some odd reason, I took it for granted and never replied to your intro. I remember being surprised to learn you lived in NY, because of your British accent that I hear when I read your words. Lol.
I've always wanted to visit the UK, though ironically, I've visited NY countless times…kinda like it, mostly don't. Also, interestingly enough, I almost got MARRIED to a woman and moved to the UK. In the flip-it-and-reverse it game, score…Matt: 2 points!!!
Thanks again for inviting me and bringing all of us together.
April 26, 2010 at 3:01 pm #8900You hear a British accent when reading my posts? Blimey, old boy!!
We like New York – to a certain extent. However, we've both got to the point where we've had enough of the New York lifestyle and want a change. We're moving to California (or therabouts) in June 🙂

April 28, 2010 at 9:10 pm #8901Nah, I was just being silly. I do that less so here, but ask Lindsay, being ridiculously silly is…kinda my thing.
Oh wow, moving to California. Well, as an almost 10 year resident of California let me pop open a bottle of British wine to welcome your arrival. Wait a minute…I don't think I've ever had a British wine. But I can bring some brie!!!
I grew up moving all over (including about 5 different cities in TX) but I absolutely love California of all the places I've visited and lived in. I really can't imagine myself living anywhere else, due in no small part to the fact that most of the state has such incredibly moderate and amazing weather (not counting today.)
Where in the state are you thinking of moving to???
February 8, 2012 at 9:50 pm #8902Hi, Martin!
Thanks for developing this site. I just signed up. I have never been to New York City but I did live in California for a year- exactly one year- moved there New Year's Eve 1995 and left the first day of 1997- so just a few hours more than a year, technically.
Anyhoo- just wanted to say thanks for the site 🙂
February 9, 2012 at 6:35 pm #8903Thank you for being a member! I am actually living in Oregon these days – our original plan was California, but after a month of touring the West Coast, we decided the Pacific Northwest was for us!

February 13, 2012 at 7:20 pm #8905Ah, it's OK – it's written in gray and in tiny letters, so I understand 😉

October 19, 2012 at 12:26 am #8906How's your sleeplessness these days, Martin? Has your own community helped you get a better understanding of healthy sleep?
October 19, 2012 at 10:47 pm #8907Much better, thanks.
The community and the research I do for the blog has given me a huge understanding of sleep – to the point where I feel I can actually help people with genuine, well researched advice.
That's partly why I put together Insomnia Land's free sleep training!

October 26, 2012 at 11:39 pm #8908I'm actually feeling a bit silly now as I introduced myself by creating a new topic!! Lol but
Martin, as you say you research sleep etc, have you read the theory that we are designed to sleep 4 hours than wake for a couple then go back to sleep for 4 hours! I forgot where I read it but I found it scarily similar to my sleep pattern sometimes!!
By the way in Lisa, 40yrs old! ( god that was painful) mother to four nearly grown up boys, a widow a step mum to two young girls, and a very lucky lady having a man who worships me and has been with me every step of the way!!
We have recently moved to tycroes, which is in South Wales.
I also have 2 little doggies, George and Rosie, George is my animal soul mate, he's kept me alive through some of the most difficult times in my life!!! Where I have given up many times! X
Looking forward to chatting and meeting other people who also suffer the torture of insomnia!
X
