      It’s been a year since I finished the course with Martin Reed. Finding him after months of insomnia and “trying everything” was the start of my leaving the struggle. Watching his videos was so calming and then reading the 2 weeks of emails of valuable information about the whys and hows of insomnia was so helpful. The course gave me practical tools, not all of which I used but finally there was a new perspective on why I wasn’t alone, how I got there and how I was staying in the struggle by my actions. It almost made me smile to find out how typical my case was. It took many months and additional sources of advice before I could really say I was leaving insomnia despite regular setbacks. The anxiety and fear are mostly gone, I can relax at night even if I’m awake and know that I will be ok and get back to sleep and will have a good next day. If I had to graph it, it’s like a horizontal zig-zag where the zig-zags eventually resemble more of a line. Sometimes it felt like it would never stop zigging but I kept living my life on very little sleep at times and eventually the insomnia stopped occupying all my thoughts. It was very incremental so patience is key to recovery. I had to stop putting deadlines on myself and accept that it would happen sometime in the future and I couldn’t control that.         The fact you enrolled in the course after trying everything meant you started in a position of real strength. You knew so much about what didn’t work and that gave you the motivation to explore and commit to a new way forward.

        You drew on the action-based skills that were offered in the course in a way that was right for you. You realized that your actions are what matter — they can draw you into a struggle and make things more difficult. And, they can keep you moving toward the life you want to live and move you away from struggle.

        The way forward isn’t always easy. There are ups and downs. It ain’t always pretty 😜

        You stayed committed, though. Committed to action. Doing what mattered. You stopped imposing arbitrary “progress deadlines” on yourself. You moved away from self-judgement. You refocused on what you could control — your actions.

        And, that’s how you got to where you are now. I wish you all the best for the future.
