      Hi all,

I’m a relatively new insomniac. I’ve had high anxiety for years, but have always been able to get sleep until recently. The last 6 months have been tougher, having weeks where I get 0-5 hours a night during the work week.

The last three weeks, I’ve been getting 3-4, and I’m starting to worry it’s getting worse. I’ve been mostly accepting, but the worse it gets lately, the more I start to fear it getting worse.

One of my big fears is that somehow this is going to kill me. I’m really just looking for reassurance that in the worst case, this could go on for years and I’d be okay. I’m hoping it doesn’t obviously, but I want to tell my brain I don’t have to worry about this. It’s not even super unpleasant yet. I seem to be able to function fine. But I keep waking up at 1/2/3am feeling hot and wired, and I’m not sure if it’s anxiety about sleep or other anxieties that are disrupting my sleep.

Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it this far!

There’s so much information that is out there that can help you at least understand sleep and Martin provides so much of that with the free email program that he has and if and when you’re ready to go further I’m sure the rest of his programs will get you even further into understanding and getting better sleep.
This stuff works and you really need to read up and get a better understanding about sleep and your body.

Hello @Insomniaguy and welcome to the forum. You are understandably concerned by the fact it is taking more and more time for you to fall asleep. As a result, you are getting less and less sleep.

There is no evidence that insomnia causes any health problem whatsoever — and that includes mortality. This might explain why we see some people who aren’t on an actionable path away from the insomnia struggle able to live with it for decades.

I hope this provides some reassurance and if there’s anything else, please share!
