      Hi,
I started to take Mirtazapine for sleep some days ago.
My insomnia came back on me this summer, after several years. I have problems with falling asleep because I am too stressed out by the fear of not sleeping at all. It happened to me before, several times.
I had heart palpitations and hair loss problems, but nothing else too stressful to trigger it.
This time I was affraid to use sleep restriction, that helped me out before, not to worsen my health issues. I decided to look for a Psych doc for some meds.
I started to go through my CBTI knowledge again, but for now I am too exhausted and stressed out to go on without meds.
Is it possible to stop this med without a worse relapse of insomnia? What should I expect?

        Hi !

I was actually given this med
Also but I ended up not taking it as I started with Martin first and then didn’t need it .
However , I was on sleeping pills and was given the antidepressants to try as a replacement as my doctor thought they would be a better option .
Did you take them in the end?
From what I’ve learned pills are not a long term solution but I completely understand why you feel you need them now to calm yourself .
        I think I was the same .
Although sleeping pills elongated my situation and recovery I still feel I needed something to help at the time
So I could sleep and at east think clearly for while . When you feel you want to come off them if you think you need help I would recommend Martin if you haven’t tried it yet .
I had tried CBT-i before but I found his course better .

Also from what I read some peoples
          Insomnia
Comes back and some doesn’t .
I don’t think it’s even to do with the meds it’s prob how you are with your anxiety levels.
My doctor had even suggested that some take the pills only the odd day when needed . But as I said I’ve never taken them.
I had a bad reaction to antidepressants before so I stayed clear of them

            HI Gab,
I can relate to what you are talking about in regard to the fear about not sleeping, this is my first go around with Insomnia and didn’t know what to do so I had the doctor give me something just to get sleep. I tried different ones and finally landed on Trazodone, which I would not recommend but it does help with the sleep, but I still wake up at different times of the morning. I really want to try CBT-I that Martin provides but I also have some reservations about doing it while taking Trazodone because I want to know that this process ids working and not me taking something to make it work. I am still in the process of doing all the wrong things, like searching the internet to find out what is wrong with me or that magic trick to fix this and get back to normal or what I think is normal.

              Hi Robb,

I am in the same boat as you. I think sleep medications worsen sleep quality and destroy sleep pattern. Plus I start to relalize that unfortunately non of them work on the long run. I could not take Mirtazapine finally, I had to stop taking it after 4 days, but I’m taking Zolpidem or OCT sleep aids.
I am also concerned, that while taking sleep medications CBTi can improve sleep quality.

                Hi Nina,

Finally I started to take Mirtazapine, but had to stop due to heart palpitations. I’m taking sleeping pills instead, but they seem to work less and less.
I am planning to start the course with Martin, but a bit concerned, if this method can work as long as I am taking the pills.
I learned CBTi before, but now I think I would need guidance and help to get along again.

Don’t worry about the sleeping pills . You can do the course and come
Off them on the course when you have dealt with some on the anxiety . At least then you will know you are on the right track and doing the right thing about it . It will be up
And down anyway . Sleeping pills only work sometimes anyway so really what’s the difference .
You will get off them and be sleeping better soon.
Did you do the two week free course ? I found that really good to start.
