I've suffered with insomnia over the last 3 years and its got to the stage I don't know where else to turn. I've tried acupuncture, hypnotherapy, reflexology, brain entrainment, changing my diet, introducing excerise, yoga etc. but nothing seems to work.
Over the past year I've been popping sleeping tablets like they are sweets. I travel to India china and Thailand often so I am able to get hold of them easily. However some nights I have no idea how many I've taken. The night before a function or work is the worst as I get restless legs and extremely fidgety.
The fact that some nights I don't remember how many sleeping pills I've taken is starting to scare me. As I know I could be on the verge of overdosing and not even realising. My stomach is suffering as sometime I'm vomiting due to the cocktail of pills.
However I know I have a massive problem and need help. The visit to my doctors was a waste of time. My doctor just assumed I was depressed and was quick to give me anti depressants. I have been depressed many years ago and I know for a fact I'm not depressed anymore. I'm just frustrated and helpless that I can't sleep!! I wish the health service would investigate more time and effort into insomnia rather then assuming we are all depressed people!
There has to be a cure??? Before one day I won't know how many sweets I've had and never wake up 🙁
February 26, 2013 at 12:06 am #14669Sleeping pills scare me I cant believe you take so many but desperate times call for deseperate measures. Do you have trouble falling asleep or is it more about staying asleep? I am surprised that all the things you tried none seem to have worked at all. Did none of them even improve your sleep a tiny bit?
February 26, 2013 at 12:30 am #14670Accupuncture worked for the first few weeks and after that it stopped having any effect. Other then that nothing 🙁
February 26, 2013 at 3:58 am #14671Have you tried (or asked your doctor about) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for insomnia?

February 28, 2013 at 7:55 pm #14672I would try another doctor maybe one with a reputation or specialism in insomnia. Have you tried that? I am guessing you'll probably just get more of the same – here take some sleeping pills– but you never know.
March 4, 2013 at 11:50 pm #14673How are you getting on lately?
March 5, 2013 at 12:25 am #146744 hours sleep since Thursday… Had to go sick at work today. Can't drive, can't function, putting on weight, no energy to talk, read, watch tv. I'm a zombie. Hitting rock bottom 🙁
March 5, 2013 at 12:26 am #14675Martin, I've tried CBT… Nothing works for me 🙁
March 5, 2013 at 8:01 pm #14676Saw another doctor today who is referring me to the sleep clinic. Finally… Somebody is taking me seriously!

March 7, 2013 at 5:32 pm #14678When are you going to the sleep clinic? Were you sent there just because of your insomnia or does the doctor think you may have another type of sleep problem as well. I always wondered if it would be worth me pushing to get a sleep study done
March 7, 2013 at 11:00 pm #14679Hi,
I basically cried to my doctor about nobody helping me or wants to help me. After reading my history notes she could see I've tried everything and recommended the sleep clinic herself. I have to wait as the NHS in the UK can take time. But this is my last chance. I guess the specialist will be able to point out if its insomnia or something else. It's a shame it's taken me so many visits to the doctors, so many cocktails of sleeping pills and so many sleepless nights just to try and see a specialist.
March 9, 2013 at 1:52 am #14680Glad you are finally getting the attention you need and I hope it helps you with your sleep. So it only took you 3 years to get that referral then.
March 9, 2013 at 10:25 am #14681Thank u, fingers crossed this will work.
