I completed Martin’s course one year ago and am so grateful that I took the course, learned the CBT-I techniques to sleep through the night again, and that I received Martin’s support throughout the whole experience. For me, it was worthwhile, and now, a year later, I can say that on most nights I am sleeping 7 to 8 hours per night and that I am not experiencing the kind of insomnia I had prior to the course.
What has helped me the most is engaging in wind down activities before I go to bed, consistently going to bed at the same time each night and awakening at the same time each morning, and not going to bed unless I am tired. Second to these primary techniques is using relaxation and breathing techniques on the occasions when I awaken or have trouble falling asleep. The course made me aware of all of this; Martin’s coaching helped me as I engaged the restricted sleep techniques.
Given this ‘recovery’ is a process, I still have the occasional difficult night but most times I don’t feel too bad after one and usually the next night I sleep well. I am now at a point where I no longer count the number of hours I sleep, I am less concerned when I don’t sleep well, and I think less and less about sleep. In recognition of this process, these techniques are the best ones for improving sleep. This course certainly helped me.
