In the past year or so, I have found that if I socialise past 9pm, I can drift off to sleep, but will sleep briefly and awake five or so minutes later. This cycle repeats for a couple of hours until I finally take a sleeping tablet and fall asleep. I’d really like to know the chemical process involved in this type of insomnia. I don’t feel stressed when socialising and use relaxation techniques fall asleep and feel very calm when I drift off, but wake up feeling like I’m buzzing.. Thankfully my social life isn’t that exciting and this only happens once or twice a month..

I don’t think it’s very unusual to find it a bit harder to fall asleep when we are out later at night — very often it’s worth the trade-off in order to have an enjoyable and enriching social life!

It might be helpful to explore what it is about the idea or experience of having a difficult night that seems to generate concern and has you reaching for a sleeping tablet.

Sometimes, accepting a difficult night of sleep can be the key to experiencing less worry about a difficult night and experiencing fewer difficult nights!
