Have you seen the Dennis Potter version of Lipstick on your collar, and the singing Detective?
I do not believe I've heard of Lipstick on Your Collar, and the Singing Detective has always been a curiosity of mine. Thanks for the suggestions, Aura Todd!!!

I watched Atom Egoyan's latest “Chloe,” last night. It kind of reminded me of another '90s luminary Tom Tykwer (German filmmmaker: “Run Lola Run,” and “The Princess and the Warrior”) in the sense that they made brilliant films in the '90s, but then Tykwer did “The International” most recently, and Egoyan has now made “Chloe.”
Although thematically similar to a lot of one of Canada's brightest filmmakers work, and written by Erin Cressida Wilson (she wrote “Secretary”) this really felt like a “mainstream” “Hollywood” version of an Egoyan film, rather than an actual Egoyan film–which it technically is. I have to imagine they were trying to make a more “accessible” film, and though the character Chloe (acted splendidly by Amanda Seyfried) is intriguing and unique, this film ultimately felt pretty flat and ho-hum to me.

Just looked up The Singing Detective, assumed you meant the film (w/ Robert Downey Jr.), but there is also a 1986 mini-series(?) which seems to be of the same source material. Which one should I watch???

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus is a classic. That had Debbie Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas in it. HDU

The 1986 one.
September 5, 2010 at 9:10 pm #9098Well,time to do a roundup of movies I have watched recently…
- Mega Pirhana – Oh jeez…this was truly awful movie, it is not the worst I've seen by any stretch of the imagination (if you have seen Birdemic, you will understand why..and that movie has a sequel out next year…damn!!) but the SFX were dreadful and it was epically cheesy on a grand scale…I'm glad I only borrowed this movie and didn't actually buy it.[*]Salt – I know lots of people have slated this movie, but I kinda enjoyed it (and looking at Anglina Jolie can't hurt either!!) and kinda the usual spy movie stuff really. I personally think that it was a fun movie to switch your brain off and just enjoy.[*]The Sorcerer's Apprentice – Be fore I say anything else…if you are expecting to see a live action version of the incredible Fantasia, don't go and see this movie. It's good fun though, and there is a nod to Fantasia in the film. Some fun SFX and it was nice to see Alice Krige as something else other than Borg![*]Centurion – nice movie about the legendary 9th Legion of Roman Soldiers. This movie was done by the same guy who did Dog Soldiers, and although there are some historical errors, I enjoyed watching it and there was a good gore quotient too.[*]Deadly Friend – I have been trying to get hold of this movie for ages and at long last I have been able to import it on DVD!!! It's about a boy who moves into down with a robot who gets destroyed. He gets friendly with the girl next door who is killed by her abusive father…and the boy brings the girl to life using the circuit boards of the destroyed robot…and she goes on a rampage killing the people nasty to her….kinda silly horror, not one of Wes Craven's best, but there is a classic scene where the girl crushes someone's head with a basketball!!
Think that is it for now…more as I remember!!

Is that Piranha the new film?

Well, if we're talking bad movies, you had me at “Lorenzo Lamas.” But he AND Debbie Gibson, that just makes me curious. Lol.

No, that would be Pirhana 3D, which looks dreadful..so will probably watch soon!
September 14, 2010 at 10:24 pm #9102My roundup:
Piranha 3D
Not sure what I can say about this. From a technical point of view, the 3D was terrible. From a film standpoint, as long as you don't go in expecting anything serious, it's a fun movie. More soft porn and violence than anything else. Think 'slasher movie' but with more boobs.
Kick-Ass
A real surprise this one – great writing and really good directing. The premise of the film ('real' people deciding to be super heroes) didn't really appeal to me, but the film was really good. I'd highly recommend it. A little on the violent side.
The Road
I want those two hours of my life back. A father and son try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. It's more about their relationship than anything else, and the movie drags. The kid is annoying, too.
Green Zone
Your typical action movie with Matt Damon being the hero. Good for switching your brain off, too – but perhaps this came out a little too soon? Iraq is still a little too fresh for a movie like this, maybe?
Date Night
I thought this would be a little funnier, but it was entertaining enough. Wouldn't highly recommend unless there really is nothing else out to watch!
Wall Street (Original)
I can't believe I'd never seen this before. Watched it last night, and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing the sequel this week.

September 16, 2010 at 1:16 am #9103Martin, you are joking right…seriously…you never seen Wall Street before?? Damn dude! That is just wrong on many levels, and it is good you corrected that I really like that movie, and because of that worry about the sequel.
Just seen a trailer for a movie called Devil on TV, hope to see that soon, but it depends on how I feel and finances of course.
As for 3D movies, the next one I am going to see is the next instalment of the Saw franchise, which is apparently the end of the series, I doubt it somehow it makes way too much money really, but we shall see…
September 21, 2010 at 10:58 pm #9104No, and I love 80s movies, too!
Anyone looking forward to the Facebook movie? I've heard it's pretty much a work of fiction, but it still sounds interesting.

September 22, 2010 at 12:19 pm #9105The Social Network looks interesting, but I'm not sure if it is interesting enough for me to go to cinema and see…although if I score preview tickets I'll probably go!
Joe Dante's The Hole looks pretty lame to be honest, so that's certainly a movie I will be avoiding for sure.
I'm currently enduring a cold that has gone to my chest so been watching a few movies…so far this week I've watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Constantine, Spawn, The Punisher (yes, the original version with Dolph Lundgren in!!), Iron Man and Batman & Robin (ok, that's not strictly true, I tried to watch it and turned it off after 20 mins, has to be one of the worst Batman movies EVER).
September 27, 2010 at 5:23 pm #9106Last night I watched 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust. It is set a year after the first movie, and a group of peopl go to hunt down the vampire Queen. The movie is ok as movies go I guess, but the original 30 Days of Night was better in my opinion….not actually seen this released in the UK as yet, my copy was imported.
Oh yes, recently watched The Other Guys too…2 words…Don't. Bother.
September 27, 2010 at 6:27 pm #910730 Days of Night annoyed me. There should have been way more emphasis on to getting to know the town and it's everyday, innocent people before unleashing the horror on them. It was barely scary or shocking when it could have been quite powerful. Never enjoyed the comic series so I wasn't expecting much of the film.
I saw Carriers last night (Imdb profile) and it felt like I was watching the straight-played version of Zombieland. Some nice ideas in it though.
September 28, 2010 at 2:57 pm #9108Not seen carriers, will look out for that, thanks!
September 30, 2010 at 10:18 am #9109Not actually a film, but it would make a good Movie is the 'Brides in the bath murders'. Anyone seen it?
