I have been suffering with fairly severe Sleep Maintenance insomnia for awhile now. I fall asleep easily but then only sleep between 2-4 hours a night. When I awake, it is almost impossible to fall back to sleep. About 3 weeks ago, I implemented a sleep restriction window of 5.5 hours, but I never make it to the end of the window. Part of the problem is I have such a hard time staying awake to the start of my window and usually have micro-sleeps. It has been difficult!

My question is: has anyone tried Silenor while doing CBT-i. Silenor is a sleep maintenance drug and advertised as non addictive. Would it make sense to supplement my SR window with Silenor? My concern is, once I am sleeping good, if I eliminate the use of Silenor, will the sleep maintenance issues likely just return?

      Thanks!

As you suggested, if you don’t do anything to address the reason why it seems to be hard for you to fall back to sleep when you wake during the night, it is entirely possible that as soon as you stop taking the medication the issue could return.

Are you still implementing sleep restriction? When you wake during the night, why do you think it’s so difficult to fall back to sleep?
