      Hello,

I’ve been in recovery for about 3 months now using the insomnia coach method. I’ve had good weeks and bad weeks. Recently, I’ve fallen in a pattern where I have a good night or 2 and then have another bad night. Maybe this a speed bump or regression, I’m not sure. Regardless, I’m feeling a bit discouraged that I’m this far along as seen to be regressing. I noticed I was still trying to count hours of sleep (predicting how many I’d get at night or counting in morning trying to figure out how long I slept) and I’ve been working on breaking this behavior pattern, but I am still struggling a bit. Mostly struggling on morning where I work at 6am or have something important the next day. Looking for anyone who has been in a similar place and what you did to help yourself get over that hump!

Ups and downs are a normal part of any journey, @Kmar42!

You know from experience that counting and tracking sleep isn’t a helpful behavior — so there’s an opportunity there.

What does a “bad” night mean to you and how do you choose to respond to them?

Hi @Kmar42 this has happened to me many times – don’t be discouraged you are getting there! Remember your problem solving brain is much more heightened to all things sleep and wants to know the hours of sleep you get or don’t get as it is trying to look out for you, albeit it’s not really helping. Try not to count hours or watch the clock as it only adds more pressure which in turn creates more anxiety and sleeplessness. It’s a vicious circle. Acknowledge it is happening and try to pass your time doing something else at night time, I listen to podcasts or music, it’s important to focus on your day even if you are very tired. You will get there, it’s not easy but you are well on the way
