I am on week four of sleep restriction. In bed from 11pm – 5 am. When I first started the program, sleep was like time travel. Now, my night time waking is starting to creep back in. Will this improve? Do I wait for it to improve before moving my bed time back again?

There are usually ups and downs on the journey — just as each day tends to be a bit different, it’s normal for each night to be a bit different, too!

Do you typically find it hard to fall asleep at the start of the night, or is your challenge related to waking during the night and finding it hard to fall back to sleep?

I fall asleep within minutes but wake up after a couple of hours.

Well, waking is a normal part of sleep — so that in itself isn’t necessarily something we need to be concerned about! When you wake, what happens next?

If I don’t get back to sleep within about 30 mins, I follow your advice and get out of bed. Ughh, that’s hard! ?. I try to read. Usually, I get through about a paragraph before my eyes start closing. I stay out of bed for at least 30 minutes because if I go back to bed too soon, I am wide awake again.
