I’m struggling to fall asleep. I’ve been staying up later and later. Now it seems I can’t fall asleep till about 4 or 5 am. Even when I take my anxiety meds and sleeping pill.

I have a severe anxiety disorder and definitely feel even higher amounts of anxiety usually beginning at 8:00 pm.

My husband is in London and we face the challenge of being 7 hours apart. We are trying to figure out how we can have more time together, but because I struggle to fall asleep, I sleep later and later in the day so I usually don’t wake up till 1 or 3 pm 😞 and by that time it’s already 8 pm his time. Can anyone relate???

Hello MoonLove, is this a temporary separation which might resolve i e situational insomnia?

Can you both agree to FaceTime eg your mid-morning to his 5 pm or so?

Are you consulting a therapist about your anxiety disorder? And exploring why your anxiety ratchets up in the evening?

In the meantime, how to get through the day…..turns out I didn’t sleep so well last night. As for today, I am focusing only on typing this. I know I have to pack and travel for several hours and then get home and take care of this and that before I go to bed. But that’s not right now.

I don’t have to leave for another couple hours so after I get send this to you, I am going to just look out the window at the trees and the sky.

If what I’m saying isn’t working for you maybe Google “A Grateful Day” for a more eloquent five minute video.

Anxiety can be a very difficult emotion to deal with. The experience of others who struggle with anxiety sometimes reveals that our (understandable!) attempts to fight or avoid anxiety can make it even more difficult and even more powerful — to the point where it can even seem to make us act in ways that don’t really reflect who we are or who we want to be.

I’d encourage you to be kind to yourself when things feel difficult. Things feel difficult when they are difficult. And, remember that you still have complete control over your own body and your own actions. You get to decide how to respond to anxiety (and insomnia).

            You have the power.

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.

Hello again, StruggleBus, all I can say is that at least several thousand of us can very much relate to your experience. Actually many more than that.

              Martin is right.

And it seems like the anxiety becomes alive and personal, the feeling can get that powerful. Even though it’s not.

I am also really hoping you can be gentle with yourself.
