Hi. I just wanted to share how I’m doing at this stage. Before I started this course, I felt pretty hopeless. I couldn’t get to sleep, woke often with anxiety and used medication.

Because I felt this was a last ditch attempt at sleep, I decided to quit the medication and just do all that was suggested and see what would happen.

I implemented a six hour sleep window faithfully, did the AWAKE and NOW exercises, tried allowing my anxious thoughts to exist, instead of fight or flight behaviour, and found I was actually sleeping more than before the course.

It’s not all plain sailing as my mindset was very much ingrained over decades of non-sleep. If I go away, it has a wobble. If I stay up late, I still worry I won’t sleep. I have worried that enjoyable things I do on my buffer zone will become a ritual that has to be done so I can get to sleep.

So, I am still working on doing Martin’s suggestions on a daily basis and I have noticed lots of improvements. I am sleeping and I’m not on medication and I don’t feel as anxious as I was.

If you’re wondering whether to do the course, go into it with an open mind and see how you get on. I am so grateful to have found how it helped me.

Your willingness to practice and commit to a new approach set you up for success, @Ros! As you shared, this approach doesn’t immediately create (or guarantee) perfect sleep every night — but it does reduce the struggle, keep you moving toward the life you want to live, and, as a bonus, it creates significantly better conditions for sleep to happen!

You are clearly struggling far less with difficult thoughts and feelings such as anxiety and, as a result, they are losing their power and influence over you. You are better able to live the life you want to live.

All these results are a result of your own commitment to change and your commitment to ongoing, meaningful, and workable practice. Thank you for sharing 🙂
