I found this site 2 months ago and it has been such a good thing, a miracle. I am sleeping all night now that I am not fighting sleep. I go to bed, concentrate on enjoying life and say I will sleep later if not now. I have had such peace letting go of it and not trying to control sleep. However, I seem to wake up at 5am or 6am no matter what. I am retired and I would love to sleep until 7 or 8 am.

I go to bed at 12, I am a night owl. I do get sleepy around 9 and that is too early for me to go to bed, so I end up taking a nap, probably too long a nap on the couch and then wake up at 12 and go to bed. Last night I didnt even take a nap and went to bed at 12 and I still wake up at 5am.

I can certainly live with this, 12 until 5 am or 6am. I am not up tossing and turning all night which I am grateful, very grateful! I just wish I could find a way to sleep later in the mornings like 7 or 8am. Any advice appreciated.

The final step of the way is truly and totally letting go. Maybe you don’t need to do anything at all. Your body just doesn’t need to sleep until 7-8 am or whatever time you have set it. For me, I always woke up at 4-5 am early in my recovery journey, now, I can barely get out at 8 or 9! That problem totally solved itself once I ignored it.

Hey yeah, so I went through your post history.

Your story does ring a bell because it is so similar to mine and practically everyone else’s who have been through this journey.

Waking up earlier than you desire is an extremely common symptom of, well, sleeping well and recovery. Like I said, it happened to me also. So I started letting go, and my go to bed time got dragged out to later as well. Because I was sleeping so well, my body was needing less and less of it! So naturally, I went to bed later once I stopped doing the srt thing and I wasn’t feeling sleepy anytime before midnight. Because I was sleeping later, my wakeup time got dragged out to later as well. So now I have a super relaxed sleep schedule, I go to bed anytime between midnight and 1am, and get out anytime between 7-8am. Just lose the tracking and the whole thing will settle down by itself.

Chee, you really give me hope. I would love to sleep til 8 or 9 am. Yes, I am in early recovery and very happy to just sleep all night and not toss and turn and go from the couch to the bed numerous times, that was hell. I did not sleep until here lately, 2 years is a long time to have such misery, I know Brian #61 said it took him 2 years. I wish I had found this site earlier but anyway I didnt think I would ever get my sleep back right, it is a miracle. Martin Reed saying I am not alone and I will sleep was so so helpful and reassured me I could do this.
