      hey all!!
I am aware that napping during the day isn’t recommended when wanting to improve insomnia issues.

Is yoga nidra – non sleep deep rest ( NSDR) ok to do? It provides some rest during the day ( 15-30 min) and I wonder if it would affect the ability to fall asleep at night and hence, to be avoided?

Napping during the day means less sleep might be needed (and, therefore, generated) at night — whether or not that’s a problem is something only you can decide for yourself!

There’s no specific action you can take to guarantee that sleep will happen, other than being awake for long enough. Many people notice that the more they try to make sleep happen, the more of a struggle it becomes.

With that in mind, perhaps the intent behind your practice of NSDR might be the most important thing to consider here?

          thanks Martin.
Yes, the intent being to get some recovery from poor sleep but, watching more of your videos, I can certainly see this could then lead to there not being enough ” sleep hunger”.
          thanks again

            Hello there!

There is nothing to “recover” from actually. The struggle continues mainly because of the rigid conditions you set for yourself, for example,

            1. Napping is strictly forbidden because night time sleep MUST be protected, at all costs.

            2. Only night time sleep is allowed and “normal”. Sleeping at other times is “abnormal”.

What not adopt a completely carefree attitude towards sleep? Trusting the entire process will work itself out. That your body knows how and when to sleep and how to keep you awake when you absolutely must. And that sleeping at any time when it’s safe and convenient, is nothing to be ashamed of. Mainly because sleep doesn’t need any kind of “protection”. Even if you try to “protect” it doesn’t guarantee you will get it either, because you still fear not getting it.

I take a nap every night. I cant seem to stay up until 12 at night so around 9 oclock I doze off for about 45 min to an hour. I like Chee when she says carefree attitude. That is exactly what I have been doing. Martin Reed says do what works for you. I wake up at 6am or 7am. I would like to sleep a while longer since I am retired but believe me after insomnia and not sleeping any I am happy with this schedule. For 2 years I suffered with insomnia until I found Martin Reed.

I have surprised myself I have been sleeping so good. It is like eating when you get hungry, sleep when you get sleepy. I have no control so when my body gets tired it will sleep with no effort from me. I have been doing good since April, 9 months now, wow. I sure was a miserable person when I first came on here, now doing really well.

thanks Chee2308 and sleep for your replies.

Yes, I am starting to take a more carefree attitude towards sleep for the last few days and this really seems to be working- already I am feeling things turn around.
I quite enjoy my middle of night wake ups- ” severance” on appletv is a great show!!
