BobbyP✘ Not a client
Welcome to this simply wonderful website! You will be very glad you joined us — despite the problems we are all having with our insomnia. The support here is just great. I know I've written this in my other posts, but truly, just knowing there are others out there going through this same agony, well, it is so reassuring and helpful.
BobbyP✘ Not a clientFriendly, introverted, worrier
BobbyP✘ Not a clientWelcome, Marc! And yes, you will find tremendous support on this website. It has really helped my frame of mind since joining several months ago — especially in those horrible hours between about midnight and 3 a.m. when you think you're the only one with this problem. 😮
BobbyP✘ Not a clientThanks to Martin for letting us gals vent a bit on this subject! 🙄
This is indeed a difficult time of life — but good in many ways too. Still, it's not the night sweats that interfere so much (for me, anyway) but just a general tendency to have terrible sleep patterns and not getting that nice, deep seven or eight hours I used to get when I was younger. After about midnight or so, my mind just starts racing and I'm wide awake.
BobbyP✘ Not a clientHello, jessallie, and welcome to this very helpful group! I continue to be very glad that I joined. Just knowing there are others out there feeling the same way that you do, well, it really helps your frame of mind.
I too have that issue of being able to fall asleep just fine, but then I wake up halfway through the night and simply cannot go back to sleep. I'll go along with several terrible nights, then get a couple of good ones (like magic, it seems!), and then I'm back to the midnight wakefulness. It is SO frustrating!! 🙁
BobbyP✘ Not a clientFalling on deaf ears??
BobbyP✘ Not a clientOooh, I think Mariamoody has figured it out! Right, Jane??
BobbyP✘ Not a clientHow about “The eyes have it.”
BobbyP✘ Not a clientLOVE my Netflix subscription!! Don't know what I'd do without it and all the movies and series you can catch up with. Actually, I'm having a bout of insomnia right now, so I'm about to go watch my current disc.
BobbyP✘ Not a clientThanks for the suggestion, Martin. Sounds like a good film.
I've recently watched some of the free streaming on HBO and caught the 2-part special on George Harrison. Very interesting, very informative.
Also, I've decided to catch up with “Babylon 5” on Netflix. My daughter watched it years ago and loved it, but I'm not a sci-fi fan so wasn't really interested. For some reason, about a month or so ago, I decided to give it a try, and I'm hooked! Anyone else a past fan of that show?
BobbyP✘ Not a clientGreat topic, Sleepy! As I've been thinking about my answer, I've decided that I can't come up with a character I personally would like to BE, but there are several that I would like to hang out with. I find myself saying “This would be a great friend or neighbor!”
First that comes to mind is Kinsey Milhone, Sue Grafton's detective in her mystery series. I could totally enjoy spending time with Kinsey. Another is Adam Dalgleish, the detective in most of P.D. James's books.
And then Alexander McCall Smith has two series in which I'd like to exist as a part of his “group” of characters: The Scotland Street series and the Corduroy Mansions series. Lots of interesting, fun characters — people I'd love to get to know and live near to.
BobbyP✘ Not a clientWow, Martin, you are right about that! Whenever another “expert” throws out those pieces of advice — all of which we insomniacs have already been trying for years — I can't help but yell “Been there, done that, and it doesn't work!” Once again, it is so nice to have all of our fellow Insomnia Land members having similar feelings and frustrations.
BobbyP✘ Not a clientAnd I want to say “amen!” to those final two paragraphs, Dozydame!! 😀
BobbyP✘ Not a clientJust back from having Thanksgiving Dinner at my significant other's family's house. Lots of people — not my “scene” at all, being the introvert that I am. But I got through it; I was able to last a good two hours, which is a lot for me!
However, of course I was dreading this last night as I was going to bed, and you guessed it, I was only able to manage a couple of hours of sleep before waking up and thinking ahead to today's social event and getting all panicky about it. I didn't even have to do any cooking — it was just the thought of all the social interaction expected of me. Oh well. My guy understands what I'm like, so we left as soon as politely possible. Could be worse, I guess. 😮
BobbyP✘ Not a clientSeveral years ago I was diagnosed with pretty bad osteoporosis, and my doctor has had me on mega-doses of D3, among other things. But it has had no effect on helping me with my insomnia problems. D3 is very good for lots of things, but I don't think sleep is necessarily one of them. Still, if it works for your friend, who knows — everyone is different, and trial-and-error is certainly a big part of dealing with insomnia. It just may be the miracle cure for you too! 🙂
