HA! Ok, but I'll burden you with just some since I am what my college applications counselors deemed “excessively well-rounded”(nutso).

I was always called that, or just a diletante ;D

Wow, you sound very interesting! I love people who can't keep their interests narrowed. There is so much out there, so many things to do and learn, why pick just one?

I used to keep budgies, for about half my life, but not anymore. Especially now. My kids wanted a pet, and I wanted a bird, but they wanted a cat, so it was a cat we went with. Fuzzy therapy for my son, I suppose. I still want a bird.

Athletics are awesome! Not just for the sports minded, but for everyone. I MISS being able to do sports.

Also, when should we be expecting a glass showing, a la Dale Chihuly? This board will expect some sort of tribute, in glass. 😉

Not tedious or boring. You do indeed sound well rounded.

I was thinking about looking into anti-anxiety medication, but I also worry about dependency, as well as side effects.

Everytime someone posts here, I want to say HI DR NICK! *shrug* I don't even like the Simpsons. But some things sort of stick.

    Anyway.

Anxiety is a huge problem for me as well. I put off taking meds for it until after I had two exhaustive stress breakdowns, and now I wonder why I let things get that far along. But sometimes it takes going through that to make you realise what's important.

I hate trazadone, personally. The thing about anti anxiety meds is that there are so many of them, you kind of have to try them out until you find which one, at what dose, works the best for you. It's taken me about three years to find the right one. An sometimes doctors don't always listen when you say you need to be on something else, so you really have to push your case if you don't think your medicine is working for you. Yes, they are trained professionals, but they can't possibly know what it's like in your body, day in and day out. You have to pay attention to what your body is telling you. And then make them listen. As for addiction, well, if you need the medicine to function, that isn't addiction, it's simply needing something to live the best life possible. Yes, you may be on it for the rest of your life. But your life could be much better for it. I'm on very strong pain pills, and will be forever, and in time I'll have to take more and more, and yes, they are highly addictive. But I have to manage that, and be careful, and stick with the dosage plan very strictly so the addiction does not get out of hand. That's just the way it is, and I'd rather this than always being in agony. It's worth it, to me.

If you don't want to take medications for it (and you should sit down and have a long talk with a doctor about them, and which may be best for you), then talking to a psych could help with identifying the source of the anxiety, and that could give you some relief.

But either way, we're here as well. So welcome to the board!

I'm sorry, no. You don't get off that easily. We need the interests list, as well. 😀

I totally understand your frustration. *hugs* Welcome to the forum, and I hope you can find something here to help you.

Nah, not a strange introduction at all! Hi, and welcome! It's always good to know about the person you're interacting with, so you (and I mean me by this) don't stick your foot in it 😀

I'm always interested to meet people who have such a long history of insomnia. It's so very different, dealing with it for most of your life, as opposed to only sometimes, or for a few months at a time (not that I am discounting how awful that can be, only that to live with it day in and day out is a different kettle altogether).

I love people with no internal censor! I have the same view on life: If you ask, I'll tell you. If you don't want to know, don't ask. Hope to see you around!

Our supermarket has the peanut crusher – a big hopper of peanuts and you switch it on and fill a tub of freshly made peanut butter. One ingredient – peanuts. Crunchy and delicious!

OMG s much jealousy. That sounds amazing.

That's our primary heat source here (the log stove)!

I'll have to go with downloads although I haven't spent money on music for a long time!!

    Soup spoon: Tablespoon or Teaspoon?

I love log stoves so much. And downloads. But mostly Spotify.

Tablespoon, because my mum and I make very chunky soups and stews.

    Ooooo Fleece blanket or afghan?

I love the idea for a positivity thread – thanks for getting this one started, Caers!

I have recently started land sailing; it's an awesome 'sport' and now I find myself constantly looking at the wind forecasts so I can get back out there! I did actually break the front axle of my land sailer the other day in very strong winds, but I am being sent a free replacement (thankfully).

More info on land sailing for anyone interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_sailing

I look forward to reading more positive posts in this thread 😉

Oh I've heard of Land Sailing! That looks like so much fun. Ooooo my jealousy! *seethes in greenness*

I was excited last night when I felt a little sleepy at bedtime, which is 10:00 pm. I drifted off to sleep for approximately 1.2 or 2 hours. This is rare for me because I usually do not get any sleep until very late in the evening. Unfortunately I was not able to fall back to sleep, but just the fact that sleep came early in the evening is good news.

Hey, I would celebrate a couple of unexpected early hours of sleep 😀 Awesome!

Thank you for the warm welcomes from so many people! I'm so glad I found all of you.

I have not found too many “tricks” to improving my sleep, but I am hopeful every night. By the way, I was wondering if others in Insomnialand have the same dread of the upcoming time change as I always do, i.e. we add an hour on that Saturday night (November 5th this year). I always dread it because it means the night is that much longer so I have to try even harder to get through until I can “allow” myself to get up. Looking at the clock is so depressing — “Is it only that time?? I was hoping it was later so I could finally get up!” So that extra hour is only misery for me. Do others feel that way?

Well, living so far north (northern england), it honestly doesn't matter what the clock says any way. We get like one or two hours of light a day for about three months straight, and only a few hours for the months bracketing those months. So I only dread autumn and winter because of that and the pain. I barely pay any attention to the time.

Does anyone else find that decongestants make them sleepy? Do you worry about dependance?

    Margaret

I don't take decongestants. I only have hayfever a few weeks out of the year so I'm not going to take pills just for that, and I can't take any nasal sprays because they give me migraines.

As for dependence, I don't generally worry about that. I take a lot of pain meds, which I will be on for life, so dependence on medications is a way of life for me, that requires moderation, but it's also an inevitability. I can't take sleep meds either, because they work opposite for me. If I found something that worked I wouldn't really worry about the dependence or addiction factor. Sometimes that's just the way it goes.

    Halloo! Welcome, welcome!

You should absolutely keep bugging your doctor about it, maybe ask about a sleep study. And yeah, I agree with getting your hormone levels checked. It's never a bad thing.

Ritz crackers — once I start I can't stop. Oh, and don't put a pint of ice cream in front of me either, especially Oreo Cookies 'n Cream or Starbucks Mocha. Okay, and peanut butter too, straight from the jar, on a big spoon.

I love crunchy peanut butter straight from the jar 😀 I started eating it like that because it helps curb my sugar cravings, but over the years I really just love to have a spoon of it every now and then for no reason other than because I want to.

Well I use a laptop, so technically I guess that's a wired keyboard?! I have a wireless mouse, though.

    Fires: logs or coal?

LOGS 😀 I used to live in the foothills of the Cascades, bear Mt Rainier, and we relied heavily on our log stove. I adore the smell of the logs burning.

    Downloads or physical cds?
