    Hi White Lori

Your post is encouraging because of your positivity with your situation. I struggle with staying upbeat while dealing with this. Thank you for the great reminder, and sorry for your many years of trouble sleeping. I pray it finally improves for you! ?

I hear you, Edgar. Sometimes, I feel the same way. Usually, when I’m overtired I will avoid socializing because it’s just too draining. But the experts say you should not avoid these scenarios.

I’m almost 50 with a family. Friendships are important, but not as important as they would be if I were a bit younger. I have my trusty dog and cat by my side. What more do I need??

I feel weepy and irritable. I also tend to isolate. I am a homemaker so this is possible to do. I go through periods of good sleep and periods of tough sleep. Prayers for us all. ?

Some nights I’m sure I get 0 hours and yet I must face the day. Very very difficult. 5 quality hours of sleep is a dream. ?

You sound A LOT alike me. I am scheduled to do a sleep study next week. I wouldn’t be surprised if my sleep arousal index is through the roof, and I know there are some nights REM asleep is elusive. With that said-this started for me about 3-4 years ago. I have been prescribed Seraquel which works only when I’m exhausted already. I hope your sleep improves and you find answers. ?

Steve, good luck on your test results. Sorry you’re having to deal with that also. Thanks to everyone for replying to my inquiry.

To answer your question Steve, my insomnia started quietly a few years ago. Probably stress related. In the past, when I was stressed or depressed I would “sleep” it off. Sure miss those days!

I don’t like to get out of bed either! I’m usually to exhausted to think about reading or putting together a puzzle.

I believe insomnia is mental. I take an antidepressant and sleep meds. Off and on as needed. I believe sleep needs are different. I can function on a good 5-6 hours of “quality” sleep.

Many mornings, like today-I wake up from sleep unrefreshed. It’s a mystery. I scheduled a sleep study for next month. I don’t believe I have sleep apnea or anything other than insomnia caused by stress. Just wanting to cover all my bases.

    I live in Tennessee.

From one who is suffering and understands you, I am so sorry for what you’re going through. You are a young man with time on your side to work this out. Seek help for the depression. Also, try CBT-I which is offered here and other online programs.

It would be beneficial to you to line up a support network of friends, family and professionals. Practice self-care, learn how to think positively and have faith that this is only a “phase” and will pass.

Praying for you, myself and everyone reading this. ???

I’m probably a bit older than you and also in menopause but your insomnia sounds like a dream. I would love to have solid quality sleep from 11-5. Maybe your sleep needs are changing and that’s all you need? I know I could function beautifully with that, but we are all different.

Why aren’t there more CBT-I practitioners nationwide? This perplexes me.

I have had chronic insomnia for three years and I sought help from a specialized doctor. My insomnia got to be debilitating. For me, meds were the right choice. I believe CBT-I is the best choice long term, but in the short term meds are helpful. There are side effects, like daytime grogginess and various others. Sleep deprivation has side-effects too. You should weigh the pros and cons with your doctor. Good Luck!

I think if your acutely or chronically tired, your sleep is erratic, and it’s causing you distress, no matter how many hours you do or don’t sleep; the outcome is all the same-You’re exhausted and here looking for support and encouragement.
