UliHarp✘ Not a client
Wow, thank you! I'm glad you like them. I hope other members will contribute soon, too; I'm excited to see what everyone can do!
UliHarp✘ Not a clientThis sounds like a great idea! I have a Twitter, but I never really use it much (other than for links).
I'm definitely up for connecting with Insomnialand members through it. If I'm online, I'm always willing to chat.
@UlyHarp is my Twitter page; if you connect with me on there, drop me a line and let me know you're from Insomnialand, please!
UliHarp✘ Not a clientHuzzah! Signature's up!
Martin- have you ever used Picnik.com before? It's a multipurpose photo editing tool, but there's a simpler (or at least, simpler for me) resizer on the site. You can resize by either pixels or percentage, and even crop the photo before/afterwards. It's what I use for resizing icons.
UliHarp✘ Not a client'MarinaFournier' wrote on '06:aHA! Maybe that's my problem, that I'm also left-handed. I do have a number of “idiosyncratic reactions” to medications. Peppermint and chamomile are supposed to be ood for bad tummies, but they make me toss my cookies. Ewwwwcalyptus has a similar effect on me. Sleep meds keep me awake. Decongestants don't clear my nose, they stuff it up. In my first pregnancy, when I didn't know I was yet, pizza was good for soothing my stomach. Go figure!
Mostly what we're talking about with drs. not able/liking to admit they're wrong is a product of an older generation (my parents, or older, which means positively antediluvian) that is fading out of professional practice, for which we are grateful. Few doctors I see anymore get defensive when I ask a lot of technical questions in appropriate vocabulary, unlike the ones in college, who would angrily ask if my father was a doctor.
(Looks at hands) Oh, my, I'm left-handed too! It's strange that you mention “idiosyncratic reactions” to medications/remedies. Peppermint also gives me queasy stomaches, and similarly, Pepto-Bismol just makes me “toss my cookies”. I've never really considered all this before, but now… creepy!
On another note, I'm glad to hear that not being able/liking to admit they're wrong is fading in professional practice. Calms my nerves a bit.

I just took my Business Law Exam this morning, and know way more about securities, corporate structures, and derivative lawsuits than I will ever thought was possible! Now I am studying for Animal Law, which is my favorite. Then a few weeks of “break” (from school at least), and on to DC. I did find a place to live just across the border in Northern VA. How is everything in OR?
FIVE finals? That must have been on heck of a ride!
Also, I've never heard of anyone studying animal law before; sounds interesting. What do you like most about it?

I second that!
UliHarp✘ Not a clientI just thought it was funny! And worth mentioning. Haha. 😀
UliHarp✘ Not a client'Martin' wrote on '05:What do you sing? Do you have a favourite style? 😉
Hm, let's see. My usual songs are “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit” from Jefferson Airplane, “You're So Vain” from Carly Simon, “Wherever, whenever” from Shakira, “Blue” from LeAnne Rimes, “Bad Things” from Jace Everett, “You Know That I'm No Good” from Amy Winehouse, “Criminal” from Fiona Apple, “Sex and Candy” from Marcy Playground, “Boogie Oogie Oogie” from Taste of Honey, “Barracuda” from Heart and “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” from Cher.
I'd have to say 60's rock is my favorite. Nothing fires up a crowd like Gracie Slick. 🙂

As for my taste in music..it is quite varied and will give anything a listen…..I currently have cued up Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, A Demp EP by The Scarletz, The Liberty of Norton Folgate by Madness, S&M by Metallica and Live at Folsam Prison by Johnny Cash. I love music though, and I'm always looking for new stuff to listen to.
Vinyl is huge to my family. My father has a large collection of everything from Renaissance to Pink Floyd, my mother hoards Elvis albums, and I have a Jackson 5/Michael Jackson collection. (Yeah, I know; it's dorky!)
My music tastes are the same. Anything and everything is granted a try; lately I've been listening to Niamh Parsons, Amy Winehouse, Dead or Alive, Yol Aulrong, Erik Satie and Marcy Playground. Or, at least, that's what I've listened to so far today. That and a bunch of salsa- hey, it's Cinco de Mayo- can never get enough Celia Cruz.
UliHarp✘ Not a client'yamerias' wrote on '05:I'm currently listening to the awesome War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne. I have always loves this album and back in 2005 I was fortunate enough to meet the man himself and he signed my 30th anniversary 7 disc edition of the album. He was such a lovely chap and great to talk to!!
Ooh, would you recommend it for writing music?
UliHarp✘ Not a client'UliHarp' wrote on '05:Contemporary composers: Yann Tiersen (The mastermind behind the Amelie soundtrack), Shane Calhoun, Paul Collier, Yuki Kajiura, Andre Reiu, Samuel Barber (especially the song “Adagio for Strings”), Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Schubert, Edward Grieg, and Bizet (he gave us Carmen).
Okay, I should have reread before posting. Samuel Barber, Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Schubert, Grieg, and Bizet are not contemporary! Not that it makes much a difference, typing their name in Youtube or whatever- just needed to correct myself.
UliHarp✘ Not a client'Martin' wrote on '17:Any music in particular that you recommend for inspiration?
I would suggest anything from…
Composers: Nicolo Paganini, Ludwig Thuille, Brahms, Debussy, Erik Satie, Vivaldi
Contemporary composers: Yann Tiersen (The mastermind behind the Amelie soundtrack), Shane Calhoun, Paul Collier, Yuki Kajiura, Andre Reiu, Samuel Barber (especially the song “Adagio for Strings”), Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Schubert, Edward Grieg, and Bizet (he gave us Carmen).
Strings players: Jascha Heifetz (widely regarded as one the greatest violinist off all time), Vanessa-Mae(violin), Joshua Bell(violin), Adam Hurst (cello), Jia Peng Fang (ehru; gorgeous instrument!), Gil Shaham(violin).
Pianists: Maya Filipic, Ehma, Roy Todd.
Opera: Leo Delibe's “Lakmé”; Gaetano Donizetti's “Lucia di Lammermoor”; Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Pavarotti, Montserrat Caballé.
Soundtracks/scores: The Man Who Cried (film); Gladiator (film); Amelie (film); House of Flying Daggers (film); Hero (film); Hannibal (film); Winter Sonata (drama); Bioshock (game; the song “Welcome to the Rapture” especially); Xenosaga III (game); Okami (game); BloodPlus (anime); Vampire Knight (anime); Madlax (anime); anything from a Miyazaki movie.
I'll stop there; I already put up a lot! On the other hand, if anyone's interested, I have three giant “writing music” playlists on my Youtube channel anyone can listen to. Yeah, I know, it sounds like I have a lot of time on my hands- I really just can't write without music, is all.
UliHarp✘ Not a clientAm I the only one who notices (and finds funny) that posting that quote and asking how to make it a signature, in itself, was a mistake and an opportunity for learning?
UliHarp✘ Not a client'Elfin' wrote on '04:Haha do you have an event reminder on your computer we have one its really annoying lmao
I have one for my MS Outlook. Hate. With a passion. Its din is retch-worthy and I have no clue how to change it. Haha!
UliHarp✘ Not a clientThat time sounds alright to me. Do you have a mass-emailer you could use to send out reminders? (Or, you know, just a bulletin/newsletter mention.)
