Thank you for sharing that. It was really helpful. I started having insomnia a few weeks ago. I was trying to work out why? My life went from mostly ok and happy enough with the ability to get the things done that I wanted to and that I enjoyed, even with some underlying anxiety. All of that vanished in a few weeks with night after night of broken sleep and taking hours to get to sleep with my heart pounding etc. I know I can very easily be hyperaroused and then feel panicky.- this since I was a child and later with PTSD. The longer the inability to sleep has gone on the more worried I’ve become.
      Your post is reassuring.

thank you Laura for sharing in such depth & detail about your recent struggle and insights into panic and hyperarousal. I’ve been struggling with insomnia off and on over the past 2 years and know its to do with the arousal syndrome stimulation-fight /flight response to fears of the future without my husband who has a terminal illness-fears of not being able to carry on life successfully by myself. Your sharing helped me realise I need to dialogue compassionately with these thoughts when they emerge and cease from ignoring them which somehow gives them power to program me for arousal which leads to sleeplessness.

That is my problem, too. There is nothing I want to read or watch when I am anxious. My son brings me videos he thinks I will enjoy or recommends a series on Netflix he has enjoyed. I try to engage myself, but it never works. I just want to throw a book at the TV.
