    Hi Chen
I totally agree with you, acceptance is everything along with the realisation that lack of sleep doesn’t stop you living your life how you want.

    Hi Delv-x
My sleep is still up and down but I no longer stress over it. I don’t find I am overly tired and can get out and about ok.
Have a minor health problem that disturbs my sleep so all in all I feel I’m doing well. I think the ACT philosophy of acceptance has been a great help to me.
Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Hi Risheet
Well done on your progress hope it’s still going well but remember not every night will be better than the last ( it’s the same for so called good sleepers) so don’t worry if you have a hiccup or two along the way

    Hi dom007
Sorry to hear of your sleep problems, it really sucks when you can’t sleep even when your exhausted. Sleep cannot be forced and so when we try to make ourselves sleep we do the opposite. I found the most useful information is that you won’t harm yourself with lack of sleep and so if you are in bed and awake just relax and say “it’s ok I can just rest and relax and if I don’t sleep so what”
Try to keep busy in the day doing all the things you would do if you did sleep well.

    Hi smithwalters
Sorry your having sleep problems but you have come to the right place. As you have found out sleep meds are not the answer, why don’t you sign up for Martin’s free course and check out the resources for some fantastic information. Many people who come here have been or still are on sleep meds and it’s not necessary to have stopped using them before starting CBTI.
Hope you get things back on track soon

Please sign up to Martin’s free course it is really worth it and take a look at his other resources they help to put things in perspective. The most important thing to know is that you won’t die from insomnia and just getting on with your life regardless of how little sleep you get is the best way forward.

    Hi
I to am having a relapse and not sure why, last night I didn’t look at the clock but also didn’t get out of bed, just kept waking and dozing.
I think the advice is not to look at the clock but I would say if that is causing you more stress look at least for now.
    Hope you improve soon.

    Hi Sumit008
It is terrible when a health scare triggers insomnia which won’t go away even when the health issue is resolved.
Have you signed up for Martin free course, if not do it now! It will help you.
You will sleep well again and the best way to achieve this is to stop trying to sleep. Not so easy I know but you will get there.

    Hi
Not sure about altering the time you go to bed but as to not getting up in the night it is ok to stay in bed resting if you feel calm and not anxious. I found accepting that I may not sleep but that I could rest and still get through the next day (maybe not feeling great) was the most helpful thing for me.
Take a look at ACT for insomnia if you are finding stimulus control difficult.

    Hi delv-x
Thanks for the update. Like you I found the logging, judging time and worrying about strict stimulus control was detrimental to me. I find just lying calmly in bed or if I feel like it reading or sometimes getting up (I empty the dishwasher) is much easier to deal with as it stops me thinking of ‘insomnia’ it is all Just in a nights sleep and just like the days no 2 are the same.

Wonderful that you are now sleeping better and thank you for taking the time to post this. Such a great post it shows that insomnia can be overcome but that it takes time and dedication with some setbacks. This is really encouraging to people who are suffering setbacks and relapses and are wondering if they should give up.

    Hi
Sorry to hear your having trouble sleeping after having covid, have you signed up for Martin’s free course i think it will help you, you should also listen to his podcasts.
I am sleeping better now and what helped me most was realising that lack of sleep while not ideal was not going to harm me long term and so it is best to not worry about it and get on with your life, sleep will come.
