You definitely aren't the only member here suffering from bouts of RLS. It's actually quite a common cause of insomnia, yet it's rarely spoken about.

I made a few posts about RLS over on the blog that may be of interest:

i've been doing the brainwave entrainment stuff since early august 2012. a pattern for my sleep cycles is emerging. i usually get about 3 hour of sleep, then about 3 hours of being awake, then going into this and that (which is napping or something else depending how KEEN i am on doing my projects).

That doesn't surprise me in the least. Check out a recent blog post I wrote:

Getting set up for brainwave is kind of expensive $29.95 for ear buds, and $45 + for the cd's. A bit much for a retired fixed income senior to invest for a maybe. I did find a low cost brainwave sleep cd on the internet so I think I will leave the CPAP off a few nights and use my regular ear buds to see what happens.

Regular earbuds should work just fine. No need to splash out for anything fancy.

Be careful with the low cost stuff you find floating around on the internet – many rely on binaural beats, which is an older technology and less effective than modern sessions that rely on isochronic tones.

Also, make sure any product you buy comes with a money back guarantee.

    Hey Lisa

Great questions – there's a lot of crap suspect advice and information out there.

I haven't published anything that's been peer reviewed so I don't want to specifically refer you to my own work. That being said, every single blog post I write over at the Insomnia Land blog contains a source link.

Therefore, any time I talk about or reference a study, click the source link to see where I'm getting my information from. Sometimes it'll be a newspaper but I always try to link to the source of the research itself whenever possible.

You may also want to take a look at the SLEEP Journal: http://www.journalsleep.org/

It's a great (and reputable) resource.

Is there something in particular you're keen to know more about?
