I looked into hypnosis for insomnia and was told it's success rate is poor. I did acupuncture for a pinched nerve and insomnia. The TX on the neck was great, the insomnia not so much, maybe 0.My physician has prescibed Trazadone. Wih the Marijuana and the Trazadone isleep very well, maybe too well, 10 hours is too much.

I don't know if this has helped anyone, I hope it has. Insomnia is a big problem and more should be done to find a Tx.

I had to go through withdrawal with Halcion, maybe even a little rebound. But I am past that now. I have been using Marijuana now for 7 months with no side effects or problems. I also use a topical for some chronic pain and it works beautifully. I know others who side with me on this topic. Some have been taken off heavy duty meds and were left no alternatives. I am happy with my solution and will continue to use it, but only at night for sleep.

    I wish you well.

Hi Rusty, actually some new ones have been built in California. Do not know about other states. I now live in Oregon. Many of the hospitals were closed thanks to Ronald Reagan and his ilk. The one I worked in is in Napa CA. Before it became such a big wine attraction it was known for it's Nut House. Not a nice phrase but that's what it was. Before I left in 1994 they were housing some criminally insane. Still trying to push out the mentally ill. Sad state of affairs.

You got a little of everything as patients. Some insomnics, some that never got up out of bed. Some very intelligent and some not so much. When I worked there when I was very young; most of the patients were the garden variety crazy person. But the 60's drug use put a lot more people in jeopardy because of drug experimenting.

I worked as a Psychiatric Technician In a State Hospital for the Insane. You can make your own assumtions. But I really think shift workers are more prone to sleep problems than the general public, just my take on it.

No! No noticeble change. I don't think it's gotten better or worse.

I am now retired, but I worked shift work most of the time. I have often wondered if it totally messed up my sleep.

I wouldn't be surprised at any of this. I really think our big nemisis is over stimulation. We are constantly being bombarded by beeps, flashing lights and too much noise.

Yes I took it years ago. I was prescribed Klonapin for restless leg syndrome. Did not like the drug. My doctor at the time told me I would never get off of it. I weaned myself off of it over a period of months.

I have tried so many Tx with questionably results. As I have posted before I am now using Marijuana for sleep. I use a tincture that I take when I am in bed and fall asleep in about 15 minutes. I get up once to take the trip to the little room. I go right back to sleep. I wake feeling refreshed and not the stiff soreness that I once had. I don't notice the restless legs that once plagued me. The neck and arm pain is better; I use a topical on my arm and leg for pain relief. I do not know if you can obtain it where you live or if it something that you would want to do. I finaly got fed up with everything else and wanted relief. I got it!

To fellow insomniacs, yes I tried accupunture. It worked well for pain but not for the insomnia. My accupuncturist said it took time. I was drinking a vile tasting tea that almost made me nauseous. But after a few months I gave up on the treatment.

I love this forum. Who else that you talk to can understand your situation. As I have stated before; the medical establishment needs to take this more seriouly. It is a threat to everyone, not just the sufferer. The trouble I found with sleeping pills is that they seem to lose their effectiveness. I have been using Marijuana now for about 7-8 weeks and it is a blessing. I sleep from 7 1/2 to 8 hours every night. It is good sound sleep, I wake up refreshed and no after effects. I do not know if it will work for everyone, but it is truly life changing for me. I wish all of you well and I know exactly what yoou are going through, and it is the pits.

    Good sleep for all

I gave up drinking coffe and other caffineated drinks. I only eat chocolate in the am. I loved my coffee, but sleep was more inportant to me. So when I didn't see any improvement to my sleep patterns I knew I had a real problem not related to what I was drinking. I have heard so many solutions and gimmicks that I just sick of it all. I worked as a Psych nurse working different shifts and have wondered if that broke something in my sleep cycle.

    Good sleep to all.

Dear nonsleepers, I tried all that you are writing about. What I don't understand is why the medical community is not taking this situation more seriously. Sleep driving and handling machinery is known to be very dangerous. Wearing yourself out just wears your out. I tried sleep restriction too. I would go for 4-5 days without more than 2 hours of sleep and on the next night I would sleep 10-12 hours and throw the whole program off. It's a vicious circle

    Good sleep

Hi Lady Jane, yes the RLS is the pits and the medication for it more so. Have you discussed MJ with your Doctor? I am told it really helps the symtoms. I order some stuff from Amazon, if you order enough stuff there is no shipping here. Don't know about the UK. You may be able so get some stuff delivered. But I think the bike sounds like fun. Never had one as a kid, too poor; I never have had confidence on a bike and to see the younger folk whiz by on their bikes amazes me. Hope you can get some rest.

    Good sleep
