I know Craig has commented on the course: https://insomniacoach.com/forums/topic/please-read-this-martin-reeds-cbt-advanced-sleep-therapy-program-is/

I'll ask this question in the next Insomniac Bulletin to see if any other forums members can chime in. To be honest, I'm not sure how many members of our forum have taken the course.

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.

Welcome to the forums, Dave. Your story about the sleeping pills is all too familiar. Glad to hear you managed to wean yourself off them – getting 5 or more hours of sleep each night is nothing to be sniffed at; you're close to getting your core sleep (which is 5 and a half hours) each night.

Remember not to put too much pressure on yourself to fall asleep or sleep for an arbitrary amount of time – quality is far more important than quantity.

Hi Craig; I'm curious – are you still taking the magnesium supplements, or do you find you don't need them anymore?

Thanks for the update, Kate. I wonder if there's a way to cut down on the cost of neurofeedback – maybe after the 20 sessions (or whatever), you could get away with just 1 session per week/month? Have you considered this or asked the practitioner about this by any chance?

Welcome to the forums and thanks for introducing yourself. I know we have other members here who have experience with panic attacks and anxiety – hopefully they'll chime in before too long. I'll also send this one out in the next 'Insomniac Bulletin'.

One thing to take away from your introduction is the fact you managed to get off the sleeping pills in the past; so that should give you some comfort and reassurance you can do the same again.

Take care, and keep in touch.

Leonn – Sorry I missed this post. I'll put this one out in the next insomniac bulletin. In the meantime, bear in mind this sleepiness proves that you have a natural ability to sleep. Naps are OK as long as they aren't longer than around 45 minutes. You should also avoid napping later in the day since this is more likely to disrupt your sleep.

What time do you typically go to bed at night, and what time do you typically wake up? How much sleep do you get each night when you go to bed?

Leon – I don't have insomnia anymore since I used the techniques I talk about in the sleep training to improve my sleep.

I should update my post to make this clearer, though – thank you for bringing this to my attention and for allowing me to clear up any potential confusion.

It's amazing how something as simple as getting rid of the clock can improve sleep. I like your positive attitude – keep it up. The more you worry about sleep, the more difficult sleep becomes.

    Welcome to the forums, Susan.

When you wake during the night, what typically happens? How long do you stay awake before getting back to sleep? What do you do when you wake during the night?

If you provide me with a bit more information, maybe I can offer some specific tips.

    Hi Jared

That's often the problem with sleeping pills – as soon as you stop taking them, the insomnia comes back. Furthermore, often when you're the pills you're not getting the refreshing/fulfilling sleep that you expect.

My CBT course helps you effectively taper off sleeping pills (with your doctor's permission/approval).

CBT is an effective treatment option for insomnia since it tackles the root cause of most cases of insomnia (incorrect thoughts and behaviors towards sleep).

    Do keep in touch.

    Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried running a search here on the forums and over on the blog? I believe RLS has come up a few times. Here's a good link off the top of my head:

    http://www.insomnialand.com/topic/570-restless-leg-syndrome/

I've not really heard of this happening before bedtime – do you mean you feel symptoms of RLS before you get into bed?

in reply to: waking during the night #15073

Some interesting comments here; thank you to everyone for chiming in.

All I will add is it's important to bear in mind that it's perfectly normal to wake during the night – our sleep isn't a unitary state. We cycle through periods of deep and light sleep and this usually involves waking during the night.

Most healthy sleepers don't pay much attention to this (or forget when it happens). Yet, many insomnia sufferers find that as soon as they wake it triggers a stress/worry response that makes falling asleep far more difficult.

When you wake during the night, try reminding yourself that this is a completely normal process and try to stop associating this waking with a problem.

Keep in touch, and let us know how you get on!
