First, congratulations on getting one night of good sleep – that must have felt amazing. I can only imagine your frustration when your insomnia resumed business as normal the following night.
I know that Celexa has been mentioned a few times here in the forums; take a look at this thread for starters: http://www.insomnialand.com/topic/103-insomnia-medications/page__hl__Celexa
Hopefully some members who have used this medication will chime in on this thread and offer their opinions and experience, too. Also, don't be shy about sending members a private message if they mention they've used the drug – they will be more than happy to hear from you.
We're all in this together.

★ AdminWelcome to Insomnia Land, Alli – and thank you for introducing yourself. Please keep us updated on your experiment with Coffea – perhaps you could even start a new discussion topic on this in the insomnia forum. I have to admit, it's something I've not heard of before.
In my research for the Insomnia Land blog, and from getting involved in the community here I have to say that insomnia does seem to be particularly prevalent amongst creative types. I haven't decided whether it's a curse or if it helps us come up with original ideas (could insomnia be what makes us creative, or does creativity cause insomnia?).
Anyway, that's a discussion for another day! Welcome aboard – I look forward to getting to know you better 🙂

★ AdminThanks for your input, Becky. Hopefully some other members will chime in, too. I've written about acupuncture and acupressure a couple of times on the blog – I am sure it helps some people, but as with any 'cure' related to insomnia, it will work great for some and do nothing for others. Still, I'd say it's something worth trying.

★ AdminWelcome to Insomnia Land, jessallie. We may not be able to cure your sleep problems, but we certainly can offer you plenty of support. I've come across a number of studies that link sleep problems with the menopause so it could well be worth investigating further – you could be on the right track. Apparently, the hormonal changes can wreak sleep havoc. You might want to take a look at our blog for some additional information.
Take a look around and don't be hesitant to get involved in any of the discussions, regardless of their age. Similarly, don't be scared to start your own discussion topics, either! I look forward to reading more of your posts and getting to know you better.

Have you tried meditation or relaxation exercises? They can help focus your brain away from worries and help you relax.

★ AdminWelcome to Insomnia Land, Stephen – and thank you for introducing yourself. I found your use of Magnesium particularly interesting since I've written about it on the blog a few times since I come across research papers and studies involving it every now and again. I wonder if any other members can chime in if they've tried Magnesium as a supplement to help them sleep? Perhaps someone could start a new thread in the insomnia forum to get some more feedback?
Welcome aboard, Stephen – now you've found Insomnia Land you no longer need to suffer alone. We're all here to support one another, and hopefully have a bit of fun at the same time!

★ AdminIt was a nice day. Well, normally decorations go up around the 16th December but this year my wife and I flew to England to spend the holidays with the family – they were abroad on holiday until the 23rd December so Christmas Eve was the soonest we could get the decorations and tree up!
There was a reasonable amount of drinking involved on the big day (to celebrate the special occasion, of course!) and I got some great gifts, including some funk DVDs, Spurs stuff and a Slanket!

★ AdminIt definitely sounds like doctors need to spend more time with you to tackle your sleep deprivation. I've long gone on about how dangerous insomnia can be over on the blog, but you're a perfect example of why the condition needs to be taken more seriously. I think you should at least investigate cognitive behavioral therapy – unfortunately I suspect it won't be covered by your insurance (which I think is criminal when you consider how many people the therapy helps), but it's worth looking into.

★ AdminCan't really put off putting up the decorations much longer so that's what I'll be up to today. Oh, and I better wrap the pressies too!

★ AdminI am surprised we don't hear more about parenthood being a trigger for LONG term sleep problems. All we normally hear about are issues during infancy – not over the long term. I bet it's more common that we'd expect.

★ AdminHi Becky
First, welcome to Insomnia Land and thank you for introducing yourself. It's interesting that you can trace the start of your sleep problems to that day at the pool, yet it doesn't seem to have any real reason; normally when people trace back their trigger there's a stressful event or something similar in their lives.
I am sure you'll find lots of treatment ideas and options both here in the forums and on our blog. What you will DEFINITELY find is lots of support and friendship here at Insomnia Land. You most certainly do not have to suffer alone. We all have your back.
Have you looked into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by any chance?
