Just got this one via email:

A San Francisco cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and the cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why is he staring and he replies, “I have a question to ask you but I don't want to offend you.”

She answers, “My dear son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything.

I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”

“Well, I've always had a fantasy to have nun kiss me.”

She responds, “Well, let's see what we can do about that; #1, you have to be single and #2, you must be Catholic.”

The cab driver is very excited and says, “Yes, I am single and I'm Catholic too!” “OK” the nun says, “Pull into the next alley.” He does and the nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush.

But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying. “My dear child,” said the nun, “why are you crying?”

Forgive me sister, but I have sinned. I lied; I must confess that I'm married and I'm Jewish.” The nun says, “That's OK, my name is Kevin and I'm on my way to a Halloween party.”

Welcome to the gang, Valerie. You're not far from me – I'm just over the river in Brooklyn.

I have the pocket Sony Reader and absolutely love it (and I know one other member here who now has one, too)! I find I'm reading a lot more since I got it. When you get a spare moment, feel free to join in the conversation going on about recommended books over in the general conversation forum – we'd love to hear some recommendations from you.

Have you read our blog? We try to provide good information, but with a sense of humor – insomnia is depressing enough without our blog matching the theme. Who knows, it may offer you some relief, or at least some entertainment!

Facebook is great for networking with existing friends, but I think it's difficult to find new people who share a common interest and are open to welcoming new people into their group – that's why we have our own home right here. We can also share our personalities without fear of falling foul of the myriad of rules and regulations over at Facebook.

Anyway, I've rambled long enough – I look forward to getting to know you better and reading more of your contributions in the future.

I have issues with concentration so reading books is something I miss a lot, I used to read books all the time, but gave up when I tried reading a book and somehow achieved reading the same page 12 times!

I used to read a lot of horror, and the best books I read in that genre was the Rats, Lair and Domain by James Herbert.

When I was a kid I could never finish a book. The first book I ever managed to get through was one of Roald Dahl's – I guess he got me into reading. Quite an amazing legacy when you think about it – he got thousands of kids reading.

Anyway, I digress – I'm a lover of horror too and I think I've read the book you just mentioned. Have you ever read any of Graham Masterton's books? I think he is one of the most underrated horror writers of all time.

    Ok, warning…grouch message…

I hate St. Valentines day, always have. I do not think you need to have a day where you celebrate your love for someone…or have a day for a stalker to justify creeping you out with cards and various other tat…and that's before I get started on the extortionate prices that stores deem justified for flowers, candy, bits of string naughty underwear and so on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to think I'm a romantic person…I have written my Cuddle Bunny poetry, made her champagne breakfast in bed on her birthday and so on but at the same time, I think you should be able to do this any time.

    Sorry, rant over.

A lot of people would agree with you – myself included. It's just a commercial day to encourage consumerism. Real love is every day, not one day!

I think when you stop working for a while before going to bed it definitely helps. When I was setting up this site (ironically) I'd struggle to sleep if I went straight to bed as my mind would still be whirling with ideas and I'd be worrying about forgetting them. Just processing everything I had done would keep me awake.

I work from home by myself so understand all too well the distractions there are! At least people that work away from home have the separation between professional life and home life – more difficult for us!

Do you work in a separate room from the normal living areas of your home? I think it can help. Start forcing yourself to shut down that computer at least an hour before bed. Give yourself some rules, and stick by them. Remember – you're the boss. You need to boss yourself around a bit more!!

Being single, I'll probably just crawl under the duvet!

I think there needs to be a 'Singles Day'. I remember watching an episode of The Apprentice in the UK once and the challenge was to come up for a new occasional day for a greetings card company. One of the teams had the great idea of having a Singles Day – a day to celebrate being single.

I thought it was a brilliant idea. Maybe someone needs to start a movement. There's a lot to celebrate in being single – none of which is recognised at this time of the year!!

Blimey, it doesn't rain but it pours, eh? It's good to vent; I bet you feel a tiny bit better just getting it all out!

Have you considered raising your prices to help reduce your workload without losing money? I think a lot of freelance writers undervalue themselves and charge less than they could. That might be something worth considering. Also, maybe you could be more selective with the kind of work you take on? Maybe only write about topics that are more interesting, or on subjects that you're more passionate about?

Don't even get me started on banks – they're worse than estate agents! You deserve some downtime on Thursday – look forward to it, and don't feel guilty about it.

Thanks for sharing – did you arrive at this routine through trial and error, or was it advice taken from elsewhere?

I don't know if I'll ever respond. In a way, I resent him for even sending the message – I guess I used the fact he never tried to get in touch to give me a reason not to bother trying to find him. The way I see it, he decided to leave and not try to get in touch – and things were simple. Him sending me that message kind of put the ball back into my court.

It's confusing, that's for sure. I got that message about 2 years ago and haven't responded. At the end of the day, that man is just a stranger – he could be any man on the street. I now live in a different country. It sounds heartless, but do I really need to know this person?
