    Thanks for posting the link – I'm going to take a look!

    Many of our members write when they suffer with insomnia – some get stuck into novels (one member just signed a publishing deal but recently went AWOL!).

    I guess writing in itself is a good outlet and a distraction that isn't strenuous so there's still a chance for sleep to find us.

    It would be interesting to hear from other members to see how they pass the time during bad bouts of sleeplessness. Hopefully we'll see some more contributions to this thread.

    Your dogs are beautiful Dozydame! My mum has a brown border collie – they're an adorable breed. It looks like Zuri (or the dog on the right) has some border collie in him.

    Good point on those strays getting 'fixed' – it's an endless cycle, otherwise. I know that in Brooklyn they were trying their best to neuter/spay all the strays.

    It's good to see you around the place again Dozydame. I've been following the floods in Australia and am glad to hear you're OK and not in the floodplain!

    It's crazy to think that just a couple of years ago Australia was suffering from the worst droughts on record – now it's the complete opposite.

    That's really good of you, Matt. When we lived in Brooklyn there was a huge 'feral' cat colony just down the street. The community arranged to put some cat boxes on the side of the street and people would live cat food for them. Someone regularly changed the straw in their boxes. It was quite sweet.

    We've always had 'rescue' cats – most of the cats we had when I was growing up were rescued strays. I undertand your reluctance – maybe sometime in the future you'll decide the time is right to try adopting one of them. In the meantime, you're still doing a great thing.

    I hear you, Matt. I had the same setup for a while. It's annoying when you use an external HD as a media center as you need to get yet another one as the backup. Soon you end up with hard drives everywhere!

    As for music I'm listening to right now, my head keeps on looping Pure by the Lightning Seeds. I can't escape it – somebody help me!

    I saw Scott Pilgrim recently, too. I am not a huge fan of the actor in it – I find he is the same character in every movie (his name escapes me). I did like the first time he took someone out, though: “Sweet! Coins!”

    Watched 'Borstal Boy' last night. Apparently it's a true story of an Irish teenager caught planning to plant a bomb in Liverpool during World War II. He's sent to borstal and it follows the relationships he builds and develops there. It's not an action movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

    I think this is a major problem, and one of the reasons why I started Insomnia Land. I think it stems from the fact 'insomnia' is an overused term. People who can't sleep for a few hours one night out of the month claim they have insomnia. Therefore, we don't associate the word with a real, debilitating condition. That needs to change.

    At least here, we all understand each other. Hopefully over time we'll expand and really change how people perceive insomnia.

    Long distance relationships are tough. My wife and I met in Prague – I was living in England and she was in the US. We had the long distance relationship thing going for about 4 years before we got married. I know what you're going through. If the relationships is meant to work, it will. If not, it won't. Sounds oversimplified, but I think it rings true.

    To get your sleep life back to normal, I'd recommend speaking with your doctor. You might also want to trawl these forums or make some new posts in the insomnia forum about your insomnia to see what other members suggest. Our blog also has lots of information.
