★ AdminGreat idea for a discussion topic – thanks for getting this one going, Franky.
'IvanAleisterMesniaa' wrote on '15:I am always bothered when I see blogs about sleep problems talking about taking bags and bags of certain fruits, types of plants etc and blending them with something. It's dangerous and most blogs and sites talking about sleeping problem are not backed by any scientific evidence.
Thank Hera that Martin isn't putting out any dangerous ideas or anything!
Although I try to keep our blog posts positive and light-hearted at times, I want to ensure I remain respectful and always link to the sources of the information I am sharing. I am not a doctor. I never try to give medical advice on the blog.
I think the fact we don't use hype, unfounded claims or sell unproven products on the blog proves how genuine Insomnia Land is. We're here to offer help, support (and fun) to all insomniacs – not sensationalism and unfounded information.
Anyway, I won't hijack your discussion any longer, Franky! I'm looking forward to seeing members share their theories of what started their insomnia. Perhaps we'll see some similarities.

★ AdminIs the spa heatwrap available online, Marina? It would be great if you could post a link to it. Would you be interested in writing up a review of the product for the blog?

★ AdminThat's interesting. Do you live in a noisy area or have trouble with a snoring partner? Just wondering what inspired you to give earplugs a try.

★ AdminYour experience with sleep studies sounds very similar to that of Lyn – she found the sleep labs to be more interested in sleep apnea rather than insomnia: http://www.insomnialand.com/topic/214-hi-from-oz/
It's definitely a frustration. Hopefully you can find some further advice here on Insomnia Land. At the very least, you'll find a lot of support and understanding.

★ AdminWelcome to Insomnia Land, Marina. It's so good to see you introduce yourself here in the forums after registering back in June! It's also great to see you getting involved in the blog and sharing your experience and thoughts in the comments.
Franky also suffers with restless leg syndrome – I wonder if he can offer you any advice that's a little different to what's been said before. It might be worth sending him a message – he's a very friendly person.
Have you thought about fitting out a room in your home to sleep in where you'll feel comfortable away from your husband's snoring? I doubt the noise is conducive to sleep and being somewhere else isn't comfortable for you as you've mentioned. Maybe creating your own bedroom (even if you didn't use it all the time) would help?
Have you thought about visiting a registered sleep doctor or sleep clinic for more specialized advice than that ( apparently not) offered by your existing physician?

★ AdminHi Jay
Firstly, welcome to Insomnia Land. It's great to have you as a member. Have you spoken with your doctor about your sleeping problems? I assume you've spoken with a medical professional at some point as you mention using sleeping pills. Have you raised your concerns about them with your doctor?
I am sure you'll find lots of support and advice here. Don't be hesitant to post new topics, or respond to existing ones – indeed, even off-topic conversations are appreciated here.
We're just a bunch of people looking for mutual support, advice sharing, and a little fun along the way.
Enjoy your stay.

★ AdminNot really a movie, but I just found that Netflix is showing a TV show serial of one of my favourite books of all time (Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett). Made in 2010, I hadn't even heard of it. My wife and I sat through 5 hour long episodes yesterday. We were hooked! 3 more to go, then I guess I have to hope they serialize the sequel (World Without End).

This basically means, I spend a few hours staring at the screen rating songs, and messing around with my playlists. Have you tried the new Ping thing?

★ Admin'seenafterscene' wrote on '11:I can relate to you GoneWiththeSun. My parents knew about my insomnia, eventually and inherently. They would “send me to bed, must have lights out” even though they knew I couldn't fall asleep. It was a sticking point with them and myself for years, same thing goes with my mood disorder.
I wonder if this is similar to the good intentions of making your child finish every last scrap of food on their plate before letting them leave the table? Consequently people grew up either fearing food or gorging on it.
I think there really needs to be more guidance for parents when it comes to coping and helping children with unusual sleeping habits.

Sure, give them a try if you think they might help – but don't spend more than you can afford, and don't go getting your credit card out thinking they'll be the insomnia cure you've been looking for.
Feel free to post in the insomnia forum with any questions or to field any views from other members about these or other similar sleep products.

It could be worth speaking with your doctor about.

★ AdminI think a lot of the problem comes down to the fact that sleep apnea is relatively easy to treat. Most of the time, you're put on a CPAP machine and problem solved. Insomnia is far more complicated, and not as profitable. I've written about this problem a few times on the Insomnia Land blog.
Don't give up hope – we're all here to support you and each other.
